Some M25 marshalling suggestions, what do you think?

First off i just wanted to thank Sparklie for the effort that she has put in to the series, Liz, Kieran and the rest of the crew. You have put on a great series and deserve praise. Hopefully something will be done about the marshalling next year, i have a few suggestions for Sparklie of you are short on teams to judge:

Offer free entry for teams that judge one event for when they enter the next. Although this will cost you financially in the short term, say 1 event, when the other teams hear of the good marshalling they will flock to the event. Everything else about the series is amazing, the fields are good, the staging area is first class and if the marshalling was consistently of a high standard then attendace would sky rocket and you would make far more money in the long term.

Make it a mandatory requirement for teams in Div 1 to marshall one leg of the series. I think that there are some experienced reffing crews in Div 1, Tigers, Shockwave, Jaguars, Backlash, Shockwave Am, Outcast, all have judged Millenniums this season, and know their stuff. Storm, Ecstacy would both make good judges in my opinion as well. That is 8 teams who would do a fantastic job of marshalling and raise the standard of the event.

Ask someone with the ability to design the fields for you. there were some complaints from teams yesterday and throughout the series about the field building. I thought that the fields yesterday were very good, but others did not. Ask Colin Graham from Campaign to design the fieds for you. I have seen, as have many others, the designs of the X ball fields for Campaign on his computer generation. If you asked him, and compensated him accordingly i am sure he would help you out. The bonus of this is that teams could be sent the layout of the fields in the pack that you send out as a series of computer printouts, like they did for Toulouse, making the even more professional and popular. I seriously think that you are onto a winner and the series will only get stronger next year when the teething problems have been ironed out.

So, what do you think guys?

:)

Good ideas

Sam,

Some great ideas - well thought out.

Perhaps making the price a little higher (say £300 per team) then we could pay the marshals a little more, too. I think thats fair to have an even better tourney.

Sam, for me the only 'iffy' item is those field maps. . .if I lose my husband (Colin) for one more paintball thing. . . ;)

I hope Sparklie takes some of those ideas on board. Cheers to Sparklie and her crew.

Cheers!

i don't think paying the marshalls more is going to alleviate the problem joey. you need to have a core of teams who are experienced in marshalling for their to be any difference. if you paid the marshals we had yesterday more to have a 'better tourney' i don't think it would make a difference.

anyway as sam said well done sparklie for a pretty good event.

Sam good ideas there, all us teams in div 1 could marshal a leg for free entrance to the next and you would get more teams coming back due to the known quality of the reffing.

Searching for the pro-tour....:S
To be honest I think that offering a free days play to a team probably won't help to attract more teams into marshalling.
A lot of teams at the M25 in the lower divisions probably don't have the opportunity to play very often, as there are so few tourneys in the south. So when something like the M25 comes along, everybody wants to play every leg.

Also many of the teams lack marshalling experience, so getting them to marshall may not solve any problems. We would certainly make untold Fcuk ups! I can be field ultimate for as many woodland punters as you like, but you couldn't imagine the mess I would make running a tourney field!

Perhaps another option could be something like what you suggest with the division 1 teams having to marshall one leg. Except suppose a team has 8 players from its roster to marshall. Could we put 2 onto each field to direct/help/advise the less experienced marshalls?

my 2p's worth!

Laterz

whilst i fully sympathise with sparklie,i can not understand any tourny organizer allowing marshalls onto a field ,who had never played paintball,or never marshalled a tourny game ?.
I understand that people canx at the last moment ,and leave the marshall total short, but maybe sparklie should have a data base of judges ,who she can call on if people let her down at the last moment, all it would require is a list of every judge who works through out the series ,along with contact numbers .
I know sparklie has had teething probs during the series ,but surely by now she should have a bank of judges she can call on??.

Good idea- and why not approach marshals from other UK tournies? i.e. SAD for one- I would have been up for it...

Whilst you can't predict people letting you down, having people down as back-up is one solution.

Unlike Cockersrule, I've heard some pretty scathing remarks on the quality of reffing at these events, which is a real shame as it seems to be the only thing that is letting it down- let's hope it gets sorted soon, and people start enjoying paintball in the south again...:)
