Bob Long lost a match last year in the NXL when he was penalised for goggles that he had cut slightly.
Off topic but as Simon revises history I thought I'd offer a correction. The call was made against Bob in a series of 3 matches Oakland ultimately ended up losing at WC 04 but occurred in the game they won.

However - I'd like to see the ref that made an issue of it - he would have to be unbelievable anal - since the product is a generally accepted upgrade ;)

NXL apparently enforced it, NPPL will put out a press release saying they enforce it, and PSP judges would have to be informed which piece of equipment is the mask.

Goggle Safety

The NPPL is concerned that players are not following rule 5.01 Face Mask / Goggles. The rule states;

Players, officials and any other individuals present in a goggle-safe area (e.g. the playing field and chrono-station) must wear Goggles with full-face protection manufactured for the use in paintball games in its original form. Goggles must meet or exceed ASTM standards for eye protection and lenses must be in good repair. Goggles must have adequate ear protection. See ASTM Standard F1776

The NPPL officials will be checking all goggle systems in San Diego to make sure all goggles meet the above standard. Please be advised that if your goggle has been modified from its original manufactures form the goggle will not be allowed on the field. Thus the player will have to get a new pair or pair that meets the standard in order to play.

It is also recommended that lenses be replaced after a taking a direct hit. Please make sure your lenses are on good condition and if they need to be replaced please do so.
