for a loovely market reseach assignment i am doing:

What market issues do you think affect the Ion now that it has been released???

(such as, how the market is ever growing and what players think of such a low priced torni gun)

Don't hate the playa - hate the game :p

The Ion simply demonstrates that you don't need to spend £1500+ on a marker to be able to compete at the highest level. The only downside is that the second-hand market has now bottomed out for many markers because the Ion is so competitive.

Why do you Luke - it flings paint does it matter?

As much of a dislike to SP for making bits for my markers tough to get its an ingenius idea for numberous reasons.

Its sold a huge amount in such a short time to should i say replenish smartparts funding after the messy situation.

also this is another way of hitting out at competetors without getting the blood sucking Lawyers involved- The blow-back market has took a serious kick to balls on sales due to the ions bang for Buck.

Since its released the bad publicity has also started to fade into the background.

It also in a way encourages younger players to start at competition level as they now have a firepower to be competitive.

Ok pre owned markers dont sell - but thats always kinda been an issue

The Ion can only do paintball good :)

The ion is a good marker, it gives people the stepping stone to move to tourny even if I do hate smart pants.

Your average punter up your local site wanting to play tourny but cant afford £600+ on a marker then air system and that can now spend about £300 and keep up with the rest of them.

I personally hate the ion :( I got punters shooting 17bps a sec at me now up my local site. lol

The Ions arrival, design and marketing can be looked at from a couple of angles...

Firstly, great price for great performance, leading to semi-blowbacks having a demand drop. Second hand market affected slightly, although i dont see how it will be affected too much...i.e:

if i have 500 quid to spend and i could chose between a second hand timmy thats the nuts or an ion + a few hundred in my pocket as spare cash i would still go for timmy... but i suppose thats just personal preference.

Secondly, its the aftermarket parts manufacturers (sp) that seem to have/will benefit the most... just go on the ion owners group forums and all they seem to be ranting about is upgrading this and that!

Removeable body shells was a marketing/sales masterstroke from SP... though they dont seem to have been exploiting it that much...

The ion seems to be a gun that a person will buy, then upgrade like mad!!!

For some reason i just know that if i bought one i'd try to upgrade almost every bit on it, perhaps pushing the total investment into the marker to over £450+... the cost of a decent second hand gun that may perform just aswell or out perform it.

Just my thoughts :)

The ION demonstrates that if you just Plagiarise other peoples ideas then the money you saved on the R&D costs can be passed on to the consumer
