I think they may well be Ben... everyone else seems to have signed the patent agreement or just rolled over and faded away :(

Can't think of anyone one now either not in the marker business or towing the SP line... whatever that may be...

Will be interesting to see if WDP do the same, then that will be everyone I think...

Don't want to start another big long thread about SP and the patents and what not, but briefly, in a nut shell can anyone tell me if Smart Parts were the first company to produce an electronic marker, or did WDP beat them to it (but with SP getting a patent first)?

Generally yes, patents usually do get carried across if a company is taken over. One exception (of which there are many) to this rule that can occur is that if the patent is held by an individual working at a company it might not always be transfered if there is a take-over.

Patent law is messy and i'm really sick of it being all over the forums, for more info on it then do a search.

Still, is there anyone official from Planet who might like to comment on how this agreement may affect its customers?

That is why I asked for the 'in a nut shell version', I'm aquinted with the search facility just don't have 5 hours spare to read through all the threads ;)

From the info i have seen, SP crippled PVI to gain the rights on the shocker. As PVI had designed and manufactured the early shockers, SP witheld payments and bankrupted PVI then bought them out including all rights to the shocker.

On the side of the early shockers, it says "designed and manufactured exclusively by PneuVentures Inc. for Smart Parts Inc. Patent Pending".

wasnt the angel led released around the same time as the PVI shocker. Im sure John Rice had designs for the angel way before then, it one of the reasons WDP picked up started manufacturing the oringal AIR system and that was out and running before WDP held the Hyperball championship.

i also believe that WDP have beaten SP in the courts 3 times to date over various issues.

Could be some intresting times a head

I haven't heard anything about kingman capitulating. And they are big enough to take them on aren't they?

Although, they might not have such a problem becuase they manufacture in Taiwan or somewhere don't they.

I think Planet are great, a good range of products, good prices and great customer service. But to be honest, a smart parts deal would sour my opinion of them. A bit disapointing really.

The way Tom described the SP takover of PVI, that just adds fuel to my dislike of them, however on a more reasoned note can anyone show me links to the story, i'm becoming warey of hearsay and conjecture and like to see things for myself.

The info will be part of future litigation, so it's not readily available. But as i've been led to believe, from a very good source, it is correct.
