Smart Parts, Inc. and Planet Eclipse today announced the signing of a patent license agreement giving Planet a worldwide, non-exclusive license to make, sell, offer for sale, and distribute products covered by Smart Parts’ electronic paintball gun patents.

Smart Parts owns several U.S. and international patents and pending patent applications related to the use of electronics in the control and operation of paintball guns. These include, for instance, U.S. Patent Nos. 5,881,707; 5,967,133; 6,035,843; 6,474,326 B1; and 6,637,421 B2, as well as patents and/or pending patent applications in Germany, France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, Japan, and other countries.

Crikey....does that include in the UK, ie: would they not be able to sell them in the UK otherwise? Does this mean that UK prices are gonna go up by £40?

I have never seen a 'official' figure being mentioned in any thread on any board, just people pulling at straws and making figures up.

Would anyone from Planet like to comment on how this agreement might affect its customers? Is there going to be alterations in prices to compensate for any royalties to SP that may have to be paid?

Well...I seem to remember seeing a thread, way back when, where it stated that parties wishing to sign up with SP, had to make a payment of $1million and $75 per unit there after...
Of course...a deal is a deal, and wouldnt neccessarily have to be within these constraints...

I doubt planets annual turnover is much more than £1m. So I think 1m$ would cripple them!

You don't think they sell more than 1000 guns per year? Not counting clothes and accesories etc. I'm sure they do.

hiring the premise (or buying it) getting all the stock etc
