I seem to remember that you weren't allowed in if you'd had it, due to night vision problems. Not certain about that though, as it didn't apply to me.
Don't think so, he went in as an officer and had it done through the army. His eyesight was not good enough to join if he hadn't had it.

Mine wasn't called 'wavefront' it was just called Lasek IIRC and the mapping was one of the options, but yes I went for the option where they digitally map your eyes.

Why? Because I have astigmatism, or should say HAD astigmatism and it was suggested it was the way to get the best results.

I'm also an engineer. I was an expert in 3D scanning and CNC machining for many years so I knew exactly what they were talking (concept wise) about from different applications. From my engineering experience I liked what they were suggesting and felt it made a LOT of sense.

I had my eyes done about 20 months ago.
Mr Stevens, thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed response. Very informative. I appreciate that.

One question - do you have any problems with 'dry eyes'? I find that a pain with my soft contacts at present anyway, just wondered if is something you noticed better or worse since the operation.

Thanks also to the NHS related poster. However, I am also unsure there is any hard and fast evidence that spending years of your life (10 hours a day) with a thin film (e.g. contact lenses) over each eye will do your eyeballs much good in the long run. Would you agree/disagree on that?

For anyone else UK based who may be interested a great site to look at is www.lasik-eyes.co.uk - a forum about the various procedures with good info from surgeons etc

I know Irons69 has had it done and swears by it..also, my friend just had it done and she said it was great, also had the wavefront version. They also do a very reasonable finance option to pay for it, coz it is £3k...for 20 mins!:D
I am considering it actually...but I think I will let the mrs get her boob job first! LOL!

So...

My question to any fellow players who have had eye sight issues - any of you had corrective eye surgery? Worthwhile? Any issues afterwards? Make playing any more enjoyable?

Wondering about anyones first hand experience preferably rather than any horror stories people may have heard/read about...
first person i new who had it done was george davidson ex aa and then Adam Gardner had done 16 months ago and was playing after 3 weeks his eyes have been fine I have met alot of people here in the states who have had it done and not met any one with a negative.

Simon or 'manike' will do. :)

If anything my eyes water a little more than they used to, but it may be due to allergies to all the wonderful different flora and fauna that I am not used to here. :)

I've never had an issue with dry eyes before, and I don't believe I do now.

Best speak to someone in purchasing or sales about that.

I'm just the engineer/designer. I don't do purchasing/sales/sponsorship/recruitment or anything else that doesn't involve making cool toys. ;)
