But it doesn't really matter what the padding is *for* if you are going to ban padding, then you have to ban padding. Full stop.
The basic argument is that the padding stops a ball breaking, but that possibilty exists wherever there is padding, regardless of what the padding is supposed to be for. Whether is be slide shorts, elbow pads - whatever. But I don't really have a problem with people wearing as much padding as they want because I think the difference it makes to a ball breaking is negligible. It is more likely to make the wearer a slower and larger target, which is fine by me.
I haven't got the slightest idea what the padding (if you can even call it that) on the Dye tops is supposed to be for and I certainly agree that the only thing is seems to be doing is causing a stir, but all I can say is that if it stops a ball breaking, I'd be suprised, but then even if it did - I wouldn't be convinced that the same ball wouldn't have bounced regardless of the 'padding' on the top. It's just not thick enough to make a difference when a paintball is travelling at 290 fps at it!
