sensible idea for id cards

hi,

i have a sensible idea for the id caed usage:

1) the cards will not have team name on it but it will have a barcode/swipe stripe on it
2) when people register they have their code swiped - for that tourney the can only play for that team
3) each field has a lap top with reader and players swipe in to the field - a marshal see a large photo not small one on the screen to check the player is who he is.
4) people who had last years card get a FREE upgrade to the new version
5) this will help have a better control and will enable players to trade teams between toureneys and will allow scratch teams to readily enter tourneys
6) the technology for this is cheap (many buildings have this system to go to different rooms, etc) and it is easily to set up.

to me this idea seems sensible and i think will possible allow people to play more tourneys as they can easily play for another team without having to pay out every time. it is true that the MS will not get as much money but it will make most players (i think) happy.
ehat do you thjink???

too complex, for the time being.
We have a hard enough time just getting our chronographs back at the end of each event.

Players will purchce a new players card each year. The money generated by the players cards goes directly to pay for some of the admin people who work for the Millennium Series. Having players cards, with team names on it, is the easiest way of going forward.

Next season, one of the things we have to be strict about is that the team name on the card has to match the team name on the schedule exactly. There have been rumors that players may have been playing for a sister team in crunch games, blagging their way on field by saying that the team names were really the same thing.
for example,
We have 'Team Wilddogs' (hypothetical team) playing AM B and 'Team Wild Dogs Kids' playing Novice. In a crunch game in Novice players from Team Wild Dogs (AM B) would try to blag their way onto the field saying that they were the same team as Team Wild Dogs Kids. This would particularly be a problem for non-english speaking judging teams.
All that is needed is for the Chrono Judges to check the teams thourgly.

With the ID cards, KISS applies
Keep it Simple Stoopid. ;)
I think anyway

What about rules for changing teams or guesting ?

Yes, there ARE rules and they are quite strict (though not always enforced as well as they might be). In a nutshell, once a player is registered for a team they can't play for any other at any Millennium event that season until they have formally transferred (and paid for their card to be changed). Players cannot transfer during a tournament. There's also lots of stuff about how many times a player may transfer during a season, & whether they can transfer up or down through the categories.

huh ?
Rules on changing teams..

This is something I feel the Millennium and NPPL need to have the same rules and enforce them strictly.

For the sport to get respect as a competetive team sport , this matter needs a high degree of trust.

The teams are the teams and must be the teams.....

A lot of effort was spent last year trying to catch Banned Enemy players from playing. I followed Hellwood around for the first three games at Campaign Cup and checked their roster after the game.

Each field needs to have someone dedicated to checking id cards before the players are alowed to chrono at the begining of each game. All you need to do is have the person lift their goggles, show you their id card and see that the photo matches the card, and that the team name on the card is exactly the same as what's on the schedule.

If the face/ card/ team name don't match, then the player is simply not alowed on the field. Of course the promoters actually have to care about the issue in order to hire someone to do the job, and i'm sure some of them are going to leave it up to the Judges, which means it won't get done

Hopefully Beard will be able to convince the promoters to take stuff like this seriously. :)

Colin sweetie, I definitely wasn't getting at the Campaign lot when I said about not always enforced as they might be. As far as I saw, Campaign was very good on this but I heard stories from other Millennium events that things weren't always as well done, and the previous year saw many, many infringements myself (e.g. players "guesting" for different teams once the prelims were over).

I know, we tried really hard at Campaign to do things right, and we'll be even better next year.

Hopefully Beard will be able to bring the other promoters into following the Millennium Requirements,
maybe it's wishfull thinking, but i've got a lot of faith in ol' beado.

This is irrelavant as last years ID cards are useless this year anyway. You have to get a new card for every season.

I think that the way to go is to issue Year long cards like the NPPL do. The cards that we got in Miami are valid for a year, rather than a season, meaning that the card that we got at the last event wil las t us all next season for the MS and the NPPL. So we paid $30 for a year long pass, rather than at Campaign where people paid £30 for a card just for that event

I definately like Sams idea about the card being valid for one year - then folks who only play Campaign Cup get the same for their money as folks who play the whole year long.

As for the guesting/transferring issue, this is just a quik type up, but I feel it should be along these lines.

unlimited transfers within division - just pay the cost of a card say £3/€5 (woohoo, i just worked out how to make my keyboard do a € symbol :D ) with the new teams name on it. This could be marked as a "guesting" card, and only valid for the event - a full transfer to a new team should work out more cost effective for the player, and generate a new card for say, £6/€10, valid until date of original ID (if taking the year long cards idea).

Any transfers up, result in being stuck at that division - requiring a "full transfer " card - again, around £6/€10

No transfers down.
