scuba tank burst disk

Not sure why someone would write that on, as there is not much point of having a cylinder full of air when your at the surface! Where did you get the bottle from as they might have reasoning for putting it on. If its holding pressure and is in test and in good nick should be ok but you may want to take it to a dive shop for a visual examination, costs about £20 and then you know its all ok.

Like I said if your worried about it just get a visual examination done on it most shops can do it within a day and its pretty cheap, if the cyliner isnt dented and has had a recent test and is keeping its pressure then it may be ok but its up to you on how you feel. Some people write things on there cylinders for posterity, my first one had "beware death" written on it when I got it, needless to say I was a bit worried but it was ok.

The difference is, the surface only bottle has a "dry valve" fitted, which will usually have a gauge. It's main use is for filling paintball/air gun bottles.

Also the testing regime is a lot easier on surface only tanks.

Ive never seen a surface tank before, obviously scuba diving doesnt require one or would be pretty difficult lol.
Yes mate, scuba diving on the surface would be pretty boring as well...lol

Yeah cool places are best for storage, even better store the cylinder with only around 50 bar of air in and for safety lay it down therefore no unsightly dents in your floor (dont ask!) Treat your cylinder like a beautiful lady, caressing her gently and..... ooh sorry lost myself there, just look after the cylinder and they'll look after you. No worries Skeet there is nothing like a bit of banter, makes posting messages worthwhile :D
I keep mine laying down, tucked under teh very bottom of my stairs,so when I drag it out, i have to quickly remove the black line left by teh boot on my floor, I have forgotten before and it wasnt funny!

Surface use, as Tom said, means it has a dry valve fitted....test schedule is 5 years rather than 2.5 years alternate Hydro/Visual
