safety and netting

sparkie

working on something big
I will take all your comments on board about the netting and i agree with what has been said.
all the nets are about 3.5 metres high, i think what the problem was the marquee and air and trade stands were in the wrong place, which we will move if we have another event
we will net 2 more fields for next year

with regards to safety, i hope none of the people who have commented on this were the people shooting the tank? the bins in the car park? side of the toilets? signs going out? and i also spoke to several teams about shooting to see he could hit the hedge leading up to the main road where they come in
perhaps there is a lesson to be had by all that we all need to be more safety conscious about our sport
lets all work together on this with everyone involved in tourneys for everyones benefit
many regards

These players are probably acting responsible, but if there is an accident in the car park, the Event organiser is ultimately responsible. MM and the sites need to protect themselves from other peoples negligence. Then as long as they have taken reasonable precautions then we will all be safer.

yep
but if people are trying to shoot over the boundries ie towards the road this is not safe, and not accidental, stupidity springs to mind.
as i said ban there asses,we don't need idiots giving us a bad name:(

Plus, firing a marker off field may no just be against the site rules...also illegal depending on the site layout. How far from public property is the car park?

We have mega safe rules for first timers and yet it all goes to sh*t with so called "Pro" players.

An accident is an accident and guns in car parks are an accident waiting to happen.

We seem to have a much more relaxed attitiude towards safety at competitions. My experience of anything is to make everything idiot proof. Not to assume that everyone is competent until they prove otherwise (ie an accident and bad press), but to assume everyone is incompetent and will exploit any lapses in safety until they prove they are competent.

Prevention is better than cure and it only takes the one idiot in thousands to spoit everything.

Rob

I think a lot of people where caught out by the hedge, adjacent to field 5, and just how close it was to the road.

As for shooting at road signs, bins and the tank - no excuse and setting up an additional area for people to stage out of their car won't solve the problem.
There are dedicated areas for shooting markers and everybody playing knows that.

If players are able to shoot road signs, questions must be asked about site suitability.

If you can shoot a car on a road, the site is simply NOT suitable for paintball in any form.

Rob,
I don't know of many sites where players can't shoot something they shouldn't if they put their mind to it.
As mentioned in an earlier thread all fields will now be netted and that will eliminate the problem.
In this case I think the MM were victims of their own success and ended up with an extra field.
I have absolutely no doubt that the MM team will resolve all the problems and take the suggestions on board,

John
