RT or not RT - that is tha question

Something interesting came outta tha geek technology thred below (no, really...) 'bout tha RT.

Manike sez that at high speeds, tha RT becomes super-accurate, and cos he knows his **** when it comes to technobabble I accept that.

So how come no-one shoots RTs or E-mags? Jeez, back in tha day it was all Mags and Cockers, then Airgun lost tha plot somewhere along tha line.

So whassup? Is the product not up to scratch, or is it a trend thing or what?

I think it's got more to do with poor marketing and an image problem personally, but what about you RT/mag owners? Happy with your guns?

And everyone else who's planning on buying a Timmy/Angel/Impulse/Matrix/Cocker...you consider buying tha RT or Emag?

I've got an Impy and was planning to upgrade it to a Eclipse Vision later this year but having tried one of Sosta's Emag Xtremes last week I think I'll be going for that instead...

I don't think it's so much a case of Airgun losing the plot as it is invention and marketing of the Angel series. Almost everyone seems to want one and on the basis of other comments I've seen onhere regarding the minimal differences between most top end markers I can't quite understand why...

Mr Chip could certainly have benefitted from the manual mode of an Emag at Hilton Park a few weeks back... first game, first shot, "error.. shutting down" and his Angel refused to fire for the rest of the day.

I think there was a definite lapse in the marketing push for a few years with AGD (maybe they were busy working on something), and other brands started to catch up and dominate the market. I'd imagine a lot has changed in the game since 'mags were king of the tourneys, and perhaps other brands have been quick to capitalize on players' responses to it - everyone wants to fiddle and customise their marker, and there isn't an awful amount out there that makes a standard mag that much better than the one out of the box.

I personally find that re-assuring - I have a second hand mag that performs very solidly, which will accept a lot of the aftermarket upgrades for later mags - a godsend when you are on a limited budget (or an old skinflint like me).

Hey

I have an E-Mag and i love it. They just have an image problem coz they look similar to the normal mag people think they are the same but soon realise that they are wrong when they shoot them. :D

I started my semi days with a mag and it rocked, never had any major problems. Then moved to a shocker but I got fed up greasing the damn thing every few weeks or so. So I now have a cocker which is great but if there was any marker I would love to have it is an Emag. However they a very expensive for a just left school about to go to uni student like me. So with all of these second hand angel LED's and LCD's going around at under £500, if I were to go electric again it would have to be one of these and not the emag that I want.:(

TJ, I think in many respects you are right and that it was an image problem, there was also an issue of ball breakage which gave it a bad reputation.

With the new level 10 update which is coming that will pinch and not chop balls (yes it can be retrofitted to any mag!) and with the new aluminium bodied extremes (with very nice milling if I do say so myself ;) in the C&C version ) then I think things will become interesting.

AGD lost the paintball consumer plot when they spent more time working on military projects than paintball ones but with some leads being taken by AGDE they are now looking to produce some great stuff.

Now the e-mag, should have looks, performance, anti chop capabilities (level 10 ,and ACE in the extreme) and will be quite a piece.

Current work to make it lighter by milling it down will also help.

Have you seen the C&C extreme? If not may I direct you to http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37661&highlight=C&C+blue there will be other versions coming also...

Evolution

I went from a Splatmaster to Phantom to Mag to Cocker to Angel and now to E-Mag and have to say it is the best marker I've ever shot. With ACE and level 10 rate of fire, range and accuracy is second to none.

I completely agree about AGD losing the plot for a bit but the European end is doing a great job in R & D. Word of mouth advertising is the best and that has started. The biggest barrier for AGD, in my opinion, is the cool factor (I think Xtremes with warps are pretty cool for those of use with enough biceps or C+C if your really bothered) but performance is cool isn't it?

Shouldn't this be in Tech room? ;)

No it beats me m8, i use an RT and a lot of people have tried it(the z-grip sucks 'em in:)) and they love it and i find a lot of people rate the RT very hightly. the "i love these markers"," best gun i've used" & " don't get rid of it" are the kind of comments i've heard, so it beats me. if ROF is an issue just give CJohns an RT and that'll change your mind, he used mine for a little try and the ROF was pretty scary and as fast as i've seen a marker shoot(mind you he is the self confessed best paintballer in the world!)
As for the e-mag i can't really comment as i haven't used one yet but i do want a try one out.
so why don't more people use 'em? i don't believe it's down to performance of the markers in question, they can certainly handle themselves there(for a lot of players needs). advertising could be a thing, you pick up p8 or facefull you rarely see an agd advert, this might make people unsure about agd(and it's existence) the other thing is what do the pro's use? i know due to sponsorship and this and that they don't often get a free choice of what marker to use if they are in a specific team. so with this we pick up p8 and hardly see a "Name" player using an RT(u do get the odd E-mag here and there) so we see this(or don't) and think well if they don't use 'em then they can't be any good. which ain't the case. And lets face it we all like to own the gear that we see the Rockys and Lasoyas of this world using in the mags(don't we?)
this post is prob too long so i'm gonna stop now!

I think it's a difference in approach

AGD have always seemed to have a classic 'engineering' approach rather than a marketing take on things. Everything they build is rock solid and costs a fair bit but never breaks and is supported forever. On the other hand it tends to look a bit dull and never be marketed.

When the mag first came out their approach of 'the product sells itself' worked fine, but then the competition started to come up with markers that were competetive performance-wise, could easily be coloured/milled etc and were marketed very heavily.

Plus which, there was the legendary short-stroke paint soup problem

I seem to remember KillerOnion(??) writing a really good rant about AGD's lack of marketing and support for dealers etc. I suspect if you find and read that it will give you a good idea of why they faded away a little.

However, someone has definitely started making the coffee stronger over there and like Manike says, it's all starting to look very good. Unfortunately you have to pay for the legendary AGD quality...
