Hi Robbo,

Could we please, if possible, ban the word punter on these forums, we should use the terms rental players or customer games instead.

I think any new player that has never played paintball before and books and turns up to play at a site should be given a bit more respect, than the term punter, some of these new players get into paintball on there very first game then go and buy kit and turn into tournament players, rec ballers or scenario players, and that keeps the whole scene alive for us all.

I run a busy site, and see a lot of new faces come through our front gates, I don’t see these players as punters I see them as customers at our site here to have a good time and if we all do our jobs right they will spread the word about paintball for us all. I think its time to clean our act up.

I do follow these forums regularly, but don’t post that much because I’m very busy on site , but I just had to get this one off my chest it been bugging me for weeks, sorry if this post offends anyone but I think this had to be said.

i remember where i started, i started as a punter.

the term has no meaning to me beyond the definition of "a british, typically english, colloquialism for a paying customer".

if the word is found to be generally offensive, or derogatory, then i will happily replace it with "customer" - i'll just to pause and think when typing :D

rider is correct, i first played pb as a punter, £7 per 100 with no reacharound and a crappy 98 custom. I play a few games with the punters and a few mates at my local site and make sure i talk to them and make sure they are having a good time and try to get them more involved in the game, rather than hiding in a sfae looking wooden building blind firing out of a window at the marshalls.

Paul, whilst I agree with the sentiment, I cannot ban use of this word; people are free to say what they like on this forum within reason; and those reasons general focus on swearing, racism etc etc

The word 'punter' is nothing more than a slight aggravation for you that has accumulated over time and as such, there is no way I can ban my members from using it no matter how much it bugs you; yes, it is inappropriate, I agree but I'm afraid it does not warrant a ban mate.

If I was to ban words that offended members for the criteria you have mentioned, I would lose members by the bucket-load because they would view this site as inappropriately censoring commonplace words.

Sorry mate, this one's a no go but as I say, I do agree with the sentiment of what you want.

how about the term guest instead?
Timmy, this is not a case of suggesting alternate words for use here, people will choose to use whatever words they see fit and if they elect to say 'punter' then so be it.
I am certainly not gonna set myself up as some authoritarian censor; I have neither the time nor inclination for that and I'm damned sure the vast majority of our members wouldn't want it.

If you went for the humour value you could always change it to something amusing. On the forums I run I once had an issue with the use of the word "Samurai". I filtered the forums to automatically change the word "Samurai" to "Fluffy Bunnies".

Problem solved and much hilarity ensued :D
