but a lot of the guys on here would still pay full price just out of respect.
... normally walk on prices are more than punter entry anyway... how do you expect a site to pay marshals and business licences etc. off of a 5-10£ entry fee??

I haven't played walk-ons because the beginners at the Birthday Punter Days I go on wouldn't want to and I play privately, so don't need to. Therefore I am a punter as I'm actively participating in playing with these new players who can't play privately with my group. It's not that I don't want to pay them, I think they are high and if I could have saved money by bringing my own paint I would like to have done that. My friend chose an expensive site in Delta Force, I'm used to and prefer Skirmish prices which are fairer imo.

Walk-on costs afaik are generally trade value. Hence people who do them aren't really supporting the fields through these days, is this a correct assumption?

Why do the punters pay to keep the sites going so that members of this forum and those more serious can play for less?

In case anyone wasn't aware the prices for Delta Force are £10 entry, £10 for first 100 balls, then £7 thereafter per 100. Or you can buy in bulk which makes it £6 per 100. These are prices on their site, there are no package deals on there. I'm aware you can save money by buying entries on ebay (8 for £3.50 - sounds great if only my friends had known).

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned that it's just plain rude, above all things. If you don't want to pay their prices then miss your friends birthday and just don't go, instead of trying to undercut their business.

If you want to save money, buy a pump and shoot less.

The guys who come to my walk ons, help build games arenas for free. Have bailed me out when short staffed, have promoted my site. Have been made props for my site, have sourced materials for my site. Have helped run charity events, have told their friends to go to my site instead of a more in your face advertised site. Have supported me through times when I think why do I bother doing this job.

Then I would say 90 percent of those walk on players have become friends who see the site as their site, so I go from having a couple of marshals on a walk on day to having 40 marshals if there are customers in as well. As each and everyone of those walk on players who come month after month are happy to tell the customers why "their" site is the best. Which is why their word of mouth is the best support I can have for my site.

As for a normal Joe Bloggs on site then you maybe lucky and see them twice a year.

Also with Skirmish being a network of sites owned by individual site operators you will find their prices are different all over the county with some charging 10 / 100 .

Delta Force is a company that makes alot of money from paintball and love or hate them as a business they are a major success. If they did not provide a good day they would soon go bust. I have a Delta Force site not to far away from me and I do not even try to compete with them as they will always be able to keep customers coming back.

Also if you came to my site you'd sign a disclaimer saying you'd not use your own paint. If we caught you using your own paint i'd have the marshals check every hit player with your paint. If you had marked or cut any player with a different brand of paint i'd call the police as you had then assualted a paying customer of mine with an object used to cause injury.

Basic prices for Delta and Skirmish are £9.99 entry. A juniors deal price including 500 paintballs at Delta is £34.99, Skirmish have the adult deal with 500, or juniors with 550 at £29.99. (£5 more at Delta) The price per paintball equates to 1p extra at Delta - unless in Scotland with another 1p extra.

So Deltas prices are a bit more, but are not so excessively different. (You also get the novelty of a free delivered pizza as opposed to an on site cooked meal). Also just because deals are not shown on the corporate web site it does not mean deals won't be available on the day.

The pricing scales for paintball are:
Punters = core business for a site. The more paint bought the cheaper the rate.
FPO Walkons = Sometimes even pay full punter price, but tend to pay a lower paint price. This varies considerably, and may be as low as an entry green fee plus paint at cost.
BYO Walkons = Pay only an entry green fee
Events = Tend to pay a higher entry then a basic green fee to cover event costs and perhaps prizes.
Private play = paint at retail prices, air /co2 from own source, facillities / marshalls / insurance lacking.

There will be deals at the delta site, a starter pack and a rambo pack. plus think of me the poor guy who has to marshal the games, set up and clean down the site, you ever gassed over 200 C02 bottles?! along with trying to stop a bunch of taffy rugby players from punching the Cr@p out of eachother :D:D

Not to mention the £10 hire for the Tpn Bravo one's the best gun ive ever seen :rolleyes:

so the general concensus is "no", but i doubt you'll take our advice as you've argued your view despite everyone's comments.

Paintball sites need to charge for paintballs to survive.
