What bothers me is that European retailers have not taken into consideration the fall of the US$. US$ is down which means they are paying less for what they order and they could bring their prices down a little. Anyhow as long as the prices are this high people will keep on ordering the bigger things online.

Here is a little example:

I took a classic European store that sells online and your usual American online store and 2 markers they both had in stock:

For a Karnivor:

EU: 1'079£ (CC prices at 1050 are atucally quite good ;) )
US: 653£ (Hell I'll throw in an extra 100$ for shipping)

For a Dynasty Shocker:

EU: 883£
US: 614£

Now I'm not an expert on the matter and I know alot of these online stores are in regions that benefit from certain tax cuts and the US market is alot bigger, and when you buy in bulk you get better prices. Also when you have less people buying you need to charge higher prices to stay alive. As long as their is such a big difference in prices people will keep on ordering online. I know local shops are important because in Switzerland their is only one shop and its about 3 hours away. Service is good (and I did buy my last marker from them) and don't regret it because I had a couple issues with it and they were always really helpful (but I did haggle the price like a mofo argueing the dollar was down....) but I'm sure their is a better compromise to be found for the prices......

The US Dollar drop can't be taken in consideration as it could recover.....the prices have been set with local markets in mind.
You are getting your conversions confused the prices quoted at the beginning of this thread are in £'s not €'s
£1050 = € 1543 approx.....
not such a good price now is it?
Now you see the complaint that Missionaire Man was making.
As within reason the US dollar is more or less on par with the Euro but worth way less in relation to the Pound. The prices at the CC have always been one of the complaints due to the European retailers involvement as the exchange rate used often appears to be one to fund their trip over...bringing a whole new meaning to the term of "Event Special Price" The prices have dropped a bit since previous events but some are still at a level that would appear to anyone with a calculator to be high...I was looking at some lens and visors for JT goggles and they were interesting to say the least price wise...I didn't buy any as I will if push comes to shove buy them from Sports Authority...(if the JT stand doesn't have any) and still pay less than was being changed at the CC.

I know it was 1050£ I was just being sarcastic. I took prices in € and converted them into £. Then prices in Dollars and converted them into £ as well. The conversions are correct.

I see what you mean for the European retailers funding their trip over. I have a question then: If the Pound is very strong compared to the Dollar wouldn't that enable the UK to have better prices than shops working with the €? (I don't know if this is the case already) It would mean you have a stronger spending power no?

Nope...

The fact that a currency is worth more on a one on one basis does not mean it is stronger.
Mostly the Pound and the Euro stay around the same level, as in the percentage one is worth of the other. There have been some fluctuations in recent years, but nothing big.

Prices for pb gear in the UK and mainland Europe are on avarage about the same.

Oh, and Mark, if you think the dollar is on par with the Euro, I suggest you go see a shrink, or get some glasses.

I think I'm a bit confused between cost of living and a currency's strength...... I would have thought that a strong currency would give you an advantage on imports but impede your exports.

I just did an interesting experiment:

Went to Planeteclipse online: you have 3 choices of currencies to do your shopping: Euros, Dollars and Pounds.

I checked the price of a Pink Lady in all 3 currencies and converted the prices into Swiss Francs and the result is quite startling:

1'245£ = 2'829 CHF (Swiss Francs)

1'868€ = 2'888 CHF

1'908$ = 2'430 CHF

I gain a minimum of 400 CHF if I buy in dollars!!!! Which if converted gives:

400 CHF = 175£
400 CHF = 258€
400 CHF = 313$

Wouldn't that mean that it is alot more advantageous for a Swiss shop to import from the States rather than UK or EU and that in the end the prices could be that much lower? Maybe if we take it the other way round it would be the same thing.... price of a Pink Lady in Dollars, converted into Euros and Pounds......

1'908$ = 1'069£

1'908$ = 1'572€

=> which means that we are all better off paying in Dollars......

€ and £ prices include tax (VAT 17.5%). Dollar price is tax free. As you're from Switzerland (outside of EU) you can order tax free (in whatever currency). But you have to pay taxes to Switzerland when you import the stuff (VAT or whatever is used in SUI).

Right, all exports are tax free, and then taxed once they go through customs. I hadn't thought of that.

1'908$ = 1'069£ * 17.5% VAT = 187£

1'069 + 187£ = 1'256£ (10£ over official price)

:)

Here is a fact.
I ordered to USA a timi and a Halo b
+ shipping
+ custom taxes
+ Bank taxes for wirw transfer
+ swiss VAT

my timi and Halo B cost me 2100 swiss francs

Made the calculation yourself wile I play

but should be something like 1312€ or 960 £
Retail price for the same gun is 1400€ in France (my nearest shop) I don’t know the price of a Timi Russian Legion in UK

p/s Back to the original topic Who of you were @ Toulouse this year? Have you seen the Timi Empire for sale at 1700€ in the NPS stand ?

I agree with the description of strength etc but I get $1.75ish for £1 and €1.50 for £1 so that is close enough to par as far as I'm concerned ;) what I can buy for $1 compared to €1 is a whole different story though.
If we are on the subject of doing comparissions here is a good one for you all...ignoring discounters (ie Paintball gear .com and similar)
A Full Shocker (ultimate) package from the US is $1250
same thing from the UK is ...well I was going to post the price up but it defaults to the US store but they were around the £1100 area now even taking in consideration vat why is it that Smart Parts appear to be the only retailer that charges basically the same price in £'s as the $ price.....WDP for example will charge the same amount in each country from the base £ price so if something is £20 it becomes $35 or whatever conversion to whatever countrys money.
