Aside from the obvious 'make sure its de-gassed' advise all you really need is elbow greese. If your tanks been loctited on then you might find a strap wrench handy.

EDIT ADDED: Dammit John, beaten me to it :)

well apart from the fact that i didnt ask how do remove a reg from a bottle i asked if there was a proper technique or tool, as for what else you can say, try looking anyone elses post. but sorry if you wernt taking the p, i know it cant be stressed enought times to make sure you fully de-gas first. it was the unscrew it part i thought was a little sarcy. thanks skeetmaster oh fountain of all knowledge ;)

did i once read that if it was loctited on with red loctite the way to get it loose was by heat, e.g. a hair dryer?

Tell that to Crossfire!

I remember last year when me and a friend tried to get his reg off a bottle, put the reg in a vice and and strap wrench around the bottle. Didn't budge.

Definately not a good idea to re-use a glued bottle that has been 'forced off' your threads could be chewed up.

You could try something a bit warmer than a hair dryer. In my expeierce it has taken about 1 minute of direct contact with a blue flame - on a feedneck - to liquidate red loctite.
