3rd draft of course done.

And you know what? I'm still not happy with it.

I've based it on the courses I have attended in years gone by, and I think I need to change the format drastically to hold people's attention.

So, I'm going to do something completely different.

I'll redraft it now.

Pete & Jabba - can you please let me have an email address I can send the new draft to you on?

Thanks.

:)

Just to clarify my intentions one again.

I intend to run a number of referee courses, based on Mill rules, sanctioned by and with the input of the Federation and with the input of Jabba (representing the Mills), and also the input of any other group of refs, be they Masters Refs or UK Refs.

I will do this for no charge, other than a nominal charge for use of the host site, unless the owner offers the use of his facilities FOC.

:)

jono i know this will be a success, but you need to educate the players as well,as 90% don,t know the full rules and here lie,s your problem aswell.
so maybe getting all the captains of each team involved aswell could be a good idea.
this is where the feds could make a differance by making it compulsary for 1 member of each team that is involved in a league has to attend a talk on the rules and there meaning.
the team i play for are lucky ,i have the likes of stu paint and the rest of the uk refs to ask for info

Point taken.

Problem is, 95% of players don't read the rules, 4% think they know the rules, which leaves 1%.

The way I see it, I'm not here to teach players to read. They pay a ton of money to enter, then they get penalised or lose games for silly mistakes which could be avoided.

My role, as I see it, is to educate and test them on the rules.

I'm not so sure it's teaching the players to read the rules but maybe teaching the players to acquire some respect; respect for the rulebook, respect for the refs and finally respect for other players.

Most, tho I concede not all, have ability to read and so I don't think it's a case of explaining the rule book.

I think what you guys are trying to achieve is fantastic, it's gonna be hard work though!

I have been out of the paintball loop for some time due to my work commitments and having more kids lately has pretty much put a stop on my time and finances for playing. (bring out the violins!)

Reffing was something I thought about previously especially after the above and selling my online store - but remember the abuse Refs took (and admitedly in some small degree I gave ;)) whilst playing so was always nervous about some tournies where I would have volunteered or was asked but was a tad anxious at jumping in without any real guidance, and making a real cokc of it.

However, reading this has made me pretty much put my hand up, if training/guidance is there then I reckon I'm in.

So I will keep an eye on this thread with interest.

robbo how can certain players have respect for the rule book if they don,t understand it.
what i mean is the newbie teams don,t have a clue what half the rules actually stand for.
so would it be a good idea if one or a few top refs like jono could reply on here to direct questions on the specific rules of certain tournies, thus maybe educating players to the finer points of the rules.
this may inturn prevent some of the abuse towards refs as the players may understand why he was pulled

This will be a ref training course.

As for modifying player's attitudes - well, you can't polish a turd, can you?

Actually you can.

But seriously now, Im still in for a reffing course, But I also think a compiled online list of rules with explainations could help, this is going back to people not knowing the rules.

Hell one of the biggest people still ask, whats a 1 for 1 or a 2 or 1?

Its fine if youve been in paintball for a while, anyone else wants to find out, it aint out there on the web to find (according to a quick google search)
