Just wondered what resolution people have thier monitors at in general?

I've optimised our site for 1153x864 or higher as i always run hight-res on my monitors but when i went on at mates house in 1024 x768 it looked crap so was thinking of downsizing it a little...

Any help greatly appreciated :)

its dependant on who your target audience is

for example more often than not, for older persons, the resolution needs to be smaller.

You should get away with 1024 x 768 but its bad practice according to jakob neilsson

i run 1280 x 1024, if you are designing a site try using a tabled layout or CSS as this would allow the page to expand or shink depending on the resolution being run.

Dude i'm no IT bod....i have no idea what you just said! :D

I jut mess about with some drag and drop type stuff with a little html here and there, but i think i'm gonna shrink it down to fit 1024...

640 x 480 - best there is ;)

Make your site 800 x 600 friendly - then virtually everyone can see it (even us oldies).

Yes - most new ones are 1024 x 768 minimum. But a lot of older/hard of seeing people tend to either drop the res. or up the font size - making sites etc made for just 1024 x 768 impossible to read.
