Hey guys,

Just looking for a bit of input, as I'm looking for a cheap starter setup.

Currrently I'm looking at a used Tippman 98, here:
http://www.store.justpaintball.co.uk/marker-gun-packages/ex-site-tippmann-98-with-brand-new-accessories.html

Or foot's Proto SLG that he has for sale here:
http://www.p8ntballer-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?135493-Complete-starter-kit-proto-slg-air-loader

Everyone seems to have an opinion on which is the better marker of the two, anyone have any thoughts?

Seems the Tippmann is considered tougher and more reliable, but the Proto a better gun generally, and a better all-rounder (I'll be playing mostly woodsball type stuff...).

Any help appreciated, I know you must get loads of these types of questions around here... ;)

Cheers,
DSt.

If you want the milsim look then by all means go for the tippman, however I recommend the SLG, as it is more versatile, lightweight, more efficient, better rate of fire :)
Also if you decide to play sup air the slg will do you just fine :)

I have a rediculous coincidence for you mate. I have for sale both a tippman 98 (with loads of upgrades) and a proto slg.

For the tippmann i can beat just paintball's offer-

Second Hand Tippmann 98 Marker (obvious signs of wear and tear but fully functional)
Brand New JT Elite Radar Mask
Brand New VL 200 Capacity Hopper
Brand New 20oz Co2 Bottle with Pin Valve (this by the way is almost useless, hardly any sites use CO2 as HPA is so much better.
Brand New H18 Neck Protector
Brand New Tippmann Barrel Sock

The package price on new equipment would be over £175.
They offer it for £130

with mine-

Tippmann 98 (better condition than an ex-site gun)
4x optical scope
laser
16" ported apex barrel
wire stock

The package price on new equipment would be over £230.
I can offer it to you for £110 ;) or make me an offer it needs to go.

OR!

My SLG, i can offer you for £75, hardly been used and in perfect condition with some spares, manual, orings etc.

Both guns need to go, and i still cant believe the coincidence :p so make me an offer mate :)

cheers

Ha, hijacked!

These both sound interesting, I'm leaning towards the SLG, your Tippmann looks a bit large with all that kit on!

What does the SLG come with, or is it just the gun? I'm hoping to buy something all-in, but a marker/hopper/bottle at the very least, a mask included would be a bonus...

Cheers,
DSt.

well i have a gravity fed hopper, that i could add to either if you want.

On the tippmann front, you could keep whatever you want from it and sell on a couple of un-needed extras to get a bottle mask and hopper. for example the scope- £20, buy a mask, stock & laser- £30, buy a nice bottle, and then sell the apex tip- £15, buy a loader. All for £110 ;) and you still get a better gun and a £30 barrel plus mask, decent HPA bottle and hopper :)

or i can offer you £70 for the SLG if you pay soon, its almost new and still under guarantee i think, just been cleaned and re-lubed etc too :)

What dya think?

cheers :)

The SLG is a good price, but I really was looking for an all-in-one package, mainly because I don't have a clue what I'm doing at the moment, and I just want something I can take out the box and use...a mask is easy enough, but I really want a bottle and hopper. Besides, even at £70, buying a decent bottle and hopper would put your price at the same, or probably over, foot's gear... ;)

Thanks for the offer, but if there's no bottle, I'm not interested.

Cheers for the input though. :)

Will that bottle work with the gun straight out the box, no additional parts needed (I realise it'll need charged)?

PS - if this thread is breaking or bending any forum rules (I don't think so, but...) can an admin move it to the right place please?
