i think there is somthing wrong with the way the millenium is reading BPS i could not use my ION as some of the judges said it was over 12 bps even when i set it to 10 BPS it was still over but you could hear that other guns were shooting faster but were still under.
I notice that they are using sound meters to check BPS as some guns have different sound signatures could it be that the sound meters are not reading some guns accuratly.
If they says 12 BPS why are they reading sounds per second not balls per second.
Did anyone else have this problem i heard the minis were having the same issues as well.

You werent the only one having issues. we had problems too, lost 5 guns with 20 seconds left on the clock before game started. they always seemed to wait until the last few seconds to check your gun and then u had very little time to change it.

I have been looking into it and realy they should not be using devices that measure sound to count balls per second they should be using equipment that counts balls coming out of the barrel not sounds that emit from the gun there is equipment available to do this why dont they use it.
Its very annoying to be told this year its 12 BPS and u buy a board for your gun pay up front for a place only to be told you cant use your gun because they dont have proper equipment to measure rate of fire.

There is nothing wrong with the equipment on either the ref's or the player's fault (in most cases im sure). It is because they shoot something close to them like the bins or banners which creates a second noise that can be picked up by the rof counter.

Simple mistake by the refs which not many players/pit picked up on

No the gun you could hear it was slower than the others but the reading was higher than the other guns i even set the board to 10 BPS and it still said 12.7 also other guns were having the same issues i saw at least 3 people with minis having the same issue it must be someting to do with the way certain guns fire the ball maybe they emit 2 pops which are so close the ear cannot hear it but the sound meter can .
I seem to rember autocockers doing somthing similar because they made 2 sounds.
Anyway if they are saying 12 balls per second they they should be measuring 12 balls per second not saying your gun is making 12.7 sounds per second so you cant use it.

We all shoot mini's and the ONLY problem in this instance with mini's is that the sound signature has an echo, so as a result the sound meter for the BPS check picked this up. We had all set our BPS for 11.5 for the weekend. To correctly use the BPS sound meters you had to place them at the end of the barrel to pick up the correct sound. The marshalls placed it in the middle of our barrels because the mini's are quiet in comparsion to other markers, hence it picked up an echo. The meter read us over 12BPS. We changed our modes down to 10 BPS for the rest of the tournament to combat this. So we were handicapped to a certain degree, which is not right. But we still got kills :D

I agree with BORIS a meter should be used to record 'Balls per second' NOT 'sound per second'.

I spoke to a Millennium marshall about this and apparently the ion's had a very similar sound signature to the mini:confused:

These problems came up when the ROF counters first came into use. I witnessed a cocker with a revvy on it being clocked at 35bps, and the judge didn't seem to think anything was unusual about that. Refs were shooting into the ground at their feet, or at the netting poles or bins, and the meter was picking up those sounds too.

But those meters are pretty accurate and reliable, if used correctly. Hold the meter near the end of the barrel, shoot so that balls are not hitting nearby objects, and apply some degree of common sense. Is it that hard?

i had this problem last year where my ego was shooting 18.7 on one field, luckly we had a spare took it back to eclipse who had just put a board in it and they said it was Factory settings.

Got ulrich over to check it 15.2bps all was fine, he went onto the field where i was shooting high tested it and it was shooting fine, seemed like a user error. I think the refs need a bit more training in the use of the timers thats all.

the problem with the BPS counter is that is measures sounds and not shots. The ROFmeter should be held at the end of the barrel but as our mini's were so quiet they were held higher up for us. This means they can get the echo that shelly mentioned and that the mini bolt works on 2 stages and both could be picked up.

The marshal tried to imply it was our fault because the mini's were so quiet!

Then add in the shooting of bins or bunkers and the noise from the other field being so close and you have a whole world of issues.

They need a way to count the balls coming out of the barrel and not the sounds.

~Also an issue with user error, this is one problem with using team marshals as you get different marshals each event and it all depends on how much training / information they get about how to use these ROFmeters.
