prize money events

working on something big
Are we ready ?????

if you start bringing money pots into events, especially talk of big funds, are we geared up with consistant professional marshalling??.

yes we have some teams and volunteers that marshall that are great and very compitant, then some we dont! then we have some with 1 series, some with another and so on.

do we need to develope a referees association linked to the ukpsf
with specialised training so theres consistancy at all tourneys.

come on guys after each tourney theres always a gripe about someones marshalling, should we take marshalling a stage forward....what do you think?

If it was all marshalled like the s2k3 i dont think we'd need pro refs, i dont know what it is about that series in paticular but i never seem to see bad marshalling the odd mistake now and then but who does'nt make those. The only way i can describe the s2k3 marshalling is outstanding. (no digs to any other events it just stands out)

off to the pit

Simple answer is yes

Look at sport in this country at all levels, you will find independent referees at 99% of them. Why should paintball be that 1%.
Think what you like but it is coming, because we want to be seen as a sport

Yes.
At the only S2k3 event I've been to, the marshalling was good but I wouldn't say it was professional.
The big thing I noticed that is lacking and I've seen it mentioned a thousand times on these boards is the consistency issue, where the rules given out at the captains meeting are not necessarily what the marshalls on all fields are working to.

What I'd like to see from the Marshalling is enforcement of the rules exactly as stated in the rulebook impartially and consistantly across every field and every team.

Very nice thought mate, but isn't the same argument been going on for years in the premiership in football. Wherever there is a Human element there is the opportunity for error.

Personally I think that with the series 2k3 everyone is scared for edit OF 'Rulebook' Russell.

I know I am!

Yes, I think we are ready for cash prizes if the organisation is right. The Paintball Association has already taken the first steps towards establishing a national body of referees and we will be building on this for next season.

If I didn't believe in it, I wouldn't be doing it.

Its about time that tournaments in the UK had somthing to play for. As far as marshals go, series 2k3 is by far the best because the teams judging for example the Kelly's know what they are doing. The amount of times I have heard this year alone, sorry guys are judges don't know what they are doing its there first time they are trying there best is unbelievable, as an organiser you should know that if two top teams are playing with a first time judge on the field you are gonna get a whole load of trouble.

If money is at stake then the judges are gonna have to be able to get the calls right and be able to deal with angry ballers. It's one thing being knocked out of a tournament by dodgy refs but loosing a few grand is another thing all together, I know I would be slightly pissed.

Judges need to stop taking the easy route out also, if a mugger is running down the field, how many times does the judge just pull them both because they cant be bothered to actualy watch who shot who first. It's hard to tell somtimes granted but when you mug a player clean then get spun on before mugging the second and get pulled out that sucks, also if you shoot the mugger then get pulled out cause he shot you anyway that also sucks but if the judges know what to look for when a mugging is going down no problems.

Summing up at the moment although I think money prizes would improve the sport, up the competition and increase the popularity of the sport I also think that the UK is a continent of judges who are just plain crap except the very rare few.

just my opinions for what they are worth

I think its about time that there were cash prizes involved in events in the U.K. Its well overdue. It will greatly increase the competition and attract more teams to the event. However, the marshallin would have to b of a very high level. Don't get me wrong, the level of marshallin at most events are quite good but it jus takes one bad call at an event involving money prizes and all hell would break loose. I think that the standards of marshallin need to b of a professional level and that is gonna take quite a long time to happen!

Yes i think that a proper marshalling system would be great, but you would have to have a massive amount of marshalls because, as well as marshalling they are going to possibly have there own team and if they are playing PB they cant marshall it. So yes it is over due but it is gonna be a B*T*H to set up!!
