I was being a bit tongue in cheek (only a little) as you realised.

I have been playing regularly for 15 years and the first sponsorship I received was when I guested for a team last month.

Free paint for the tourny!

Before you say I must be really crap to not have been sponsored before, I dont play tourny's regularly.

You are very lucky in the states, price wise at least, everything here is approx twice as expensive. A lot of sites are still charging £7.00/100 ($11.00/100 approx).

A new Cocker will cost £450.00 ($720.00 approx).

I still spend the same on a day out as I did 15 years ago, I just shoot a lot more paint. In real terms, taking into account inflation, it is a lot cheaper now than then.

Us normal players are paying for the sponsorship enjoyed by the few.

Get rid of sponsorship I say!

Make them pay like everyone else.
Hm, you seem to have an inflated idea of what most teams get in a sponsorship deal. In a later post you comment on getting free paint for the tourney - well that's more than most "sponsored" teams get, as KO points out the deal they get is often no more than trade price or similar (say 10-15% off list). I would guess maybe half a dozen teams in the UK at the most get everything or nearly everything paid for, then it's just more or less discounts or a few of free cases of paint (but not enough for a whole tourney!).
I for one would never begrudge the Banzais or Shockwaves of this world the help they get. Some of their players have been at the top for many years & have more than earned their sponsorship, and they showcase the products AND UK PAINTBALL to the rest of the world. To fully support a top Pro team probably only adds maybe a couple of quid to the price of a top end marker by the time they've sold them round the world.

I realise your post that I quoted was probably a bit tongue in cheek (though please use the smileys in future if this is the case), but it's a point I thought needed to be put across anyway as many people seem to think a "sponsored by" sig means all costs paid!

Liz, I think that is a good point. Most people would assume that sponsorship from say Zap or Diablo would mean free paint not just a discount.

I assume that that goes for markers as well. Most teams would get a discount not free markers.

Sorry not really a smiley person:D

punter prices

Some sites in Scotland charge between £10 and £12 for a hundred balls. They claim that the customer base is not big enough to justify cheaper prices.
At those prices no wonder they don't have a larger customer base.

I have been playing tourny pball for 14 years,
and for the first time on 1 tourny last year
we recieved our accomodation and 13 cases of
paint paid for, what a sweet deal we still had
to pay for gas and meals, not to forget drive
13 hours in provided van. Unbeliveable good luck
in my opinion! As for paint prices, well in 87
when I started playing we paid 25 cents a ball
so of cource we did'nt shoot much, now the best
price I have had is 2.5 cents a ball for seconds
but of cource I now shoot a case of 2000 per
practice.
