Preventing the opportunist theft (hopefully)

This is the way are markers were kept all day after the Reading venue last time & trouble at other paintball events. The lock is £6.00 from B&Q (retractable plastic covered steel wire from a three digit combination lock) and the eye is from a local hardware for 0.50p. The idea is that the opportunist thief looks at my marker & decides that yours unlocked is an easier bet to steal. This lock will not stop a thief with bolt cutters, its just buying time to prevent the theft. We are all responsible for are own equipment!! If you can afford a security Geezer to stand over your equipment that’s fine, but for the time I will have to stick with the lock.

HOPE THIS HELPS

jump on table chair, jump on that weak looking loop thing, dissapear with xsv ego? :).

Im going with chaining a big angry dog to whatever gun im shooting, though it may not want to part with the gun, could make for some interesting 50 battles :D.

You can probably leave your Silver Bullet all day;) and you'll be fine, but a £1000 marker? Try asking a cyclist if they'd leave their bike unlocked (at an event or otherwise) and listen for the hollow laughs. Anything worth nicking will be nicked, doesn't take much to secure them.
Sure that alarm might look a bit flimsy but there are others that aren't, and anything that stops someone just walking off with a £1300 combo has got to be worth a try. Most of the theft stories on here start 'I left it and when I came back......' so the lesson must be don't leava da kit unattended.

Don't buy any 2nd hand ones - then the thiefs customer base will dry up ;).

But 10/10 for effort - at least someone took the time to come up with a positive idea. Anything to make life that little bit harder for thieves is all good (jumping on a chair then the table will get noticed I think - as will unscrewing [unless you are really quick]). Imagine 2 gats left unattended - one with this lock on - one without - which would you go for (think of a house with an alarm box on the outside)?

Mines still here!! (went to Reading) And you can't sell yours because of chips in the paint that the chain or dog made. The guy will take the unattended or unlocked because it’s easy!! YOU WILL NOT!! stop the determined criminal but maybe just maybe lessen the opportunity
