Not true at all. Baiscally if any game has a system link option then you can play it online.

Look at XLink Kai Evolution 7 and XBConnect.

These are tunnel software and allow multiplayer on chipped xbox's ive been playing a lot of HALO 2 on Xlink that last couple of nights.

Not exactly the most ideal method for finding the largest amount of players on what already will be a rather niché game. Also you will lose out on any features such as downloadable content.
