I wear a 30 waist. I use XL kneepads, XL armpads, and either L or XL sliding shorts. I heard Dye improved their size fittings, but My arm pads didn't change. Haven't got the 2003 shorts or kneepads, yet.
My advice? Go big.

medium i suppose. Depends on your body really. if your thin as anything then i'd suggest medium as small is really to small. Built like a brick ****house?!?!? large then. A walking balloon? XL i would go for
Tried the JT Skinz kneepads, ripped the spandex part the first day playing. Guess they weren't designed with non-aerodynamic backmen in mind Got some Dye kneepads, havent' had a problem with 'em.
Just got a new pair of the Dye Slider shorts. Still love 'em. The 2003s have better venting so they're a bit cooler. Othewise about the same. I found they fit better if you go down a size from what you usually wear (L instead of XL in my case)
Robinator - I have the same problem. The cup is placed above the crotch, so it doesn't cover all the equipment . I replaced the foam cup with a hard cup. Can't be too careful down there
