Poor Millennium

i know this is naive but an answer would be cool. Right now a lot of the 'money' e.g. sponsorship is in america. Now why have the companies done this?!?!? i know the big series are over there NPPL and NXL etc. but if the companies want to make a big profit then do they not need to go worldwide?!?!?

It's been said before and i'll say it again. Without the same level of sponsorship over here for pro and am teams we will struggle to compete on any level no matter how hard and well we train. Nexus have hit the jackpot and big themselves up i aint taking 'owt away from that but that's only one team in the UK with that sorta sponsorship compared to what 20 - 30 teams in the US?!? we have got the teams (tigers, SAD, outcasts, shockwave etc) to get there but a lack of cash injection will leave us hanging for years to come

If the numbers are wrong in this i apologise that's just what it looks like from my view.

Any views to explain this would be greatly appreciated....

Bunker, when the Preds did their thing, the international paintball scene was a whole lot different from what it is now.
The playing fields, both sides of the Atlantic were not too dissimilar, but now there is a vast gulf between us, not only in terms of playing pools but also financial resources.

The future certainly looks brighter that's for sure, recent results by Tigers, Shockwave and Nexus have indicated as much but getting closer doesn't mean to say we will get there as the Russkies are now finding out for themselves.

If we map out the next year or so, in terms of paths of improvement of say, Nexus, Shock and Tigers, we have to also acknowledge that for the self same period, the Americans will be improving as well.

So for us to catch up, our rate of improvement has to be considerably more rapid.

Our one hope of providing a serious cauldron for paintball development over here (the X-Ball 'Full integration' proposal) was unbelievably refused by the powers that be on the Millennium Board and this has left us all floundering to some extent.
I was recently discussing the X-Ball situation with Pete Martin, Captain of the Tigers, and he told me in an almost Churchillian way, 'Never has so much damage been done to European paintball and was caused by so few people (The Millennium Board) when they decided to run X-ball the way they have'.

The odds are stacked against us at the moment and I can't see the situation changing in the near future.
All we can do is point our respective teams in certain directions, work hard and see what happens.

Whats that Robbo? work hard at our jobs to pay for the travelling and tournaments or work hard at trying to even get to the yanks level. Cos you know it will be very difficult to do both if you dont have a well payed job, or extremely generous sponsors...

I meant work with your teams with regard to training, you don't need massive sponsor packages to do that.
I know it makes it easier if you have one but it isn't impossible if you don't.

You can't reduce the success of every team to sponsor portfolios just because it seems a convenient tag on which to hang an excuse because there are lots of teams out there who would never make it, no matter what they were given, so let's not run too far with this idea.

No, let's take it all the way. I've had a long think about this and I would like, on behalf of my team mates, to put Apocalypse forward to test the theory.

If you, Robbo, using your influence and skill, could arrange for us to have 150 cases of paint a month, have a word with our bosses/wives/girlfriends and get us each 5 paid days off every week, arrange a 7-man tubeless, indoor, air-conditioned field for us to practice on, get us free flights, accomodation, and entry fee to every tournament we want to attend, and a whole host of new shiney toys to play with we will, in return, do our utmost to disprove your contention.

Oh, we will also need free fried food, i.e. burgers, chips and bacon sarnies, free cigarettes, free beer, a splint for Pesties leg, a pallet of kitchen roll for Famines goggles, new trigger fingers for Gurney, a new ankle for Markeh, a zimmer frame for me...

Hmm.. maybe this won't work after all??

Oh well, I'm sure if people can get grants to discover why cornflakes go soggy in milk, we should be able to get a grant for this little scientific experiment... shouldn't we??
