You need to wear them upside down, i.e. so the pods can be taken out of the bottom of the pack, with the lids facing down. This makes it easier to pull them free in a hurry & less likely to open the pods while getting them out.
One thing to be careful of though is that you grip the pod firmly on the body, not by the lid, or it will open & spill all your paint. To help this, make sure you don't put the pods all the way in & have a couple of inches free to get hold of. Have a look at the piccies of the pros & see how they have theirs.

I on the other hand have always carried my pods upside down but have managed to....... drop my balls..... (ha) many a time. If the pods where facing up then you may have to dis-locate your arms to get to them, especually when behind a snake.

buy a horizontal pack, like the redz 1 or the JT 1. i prefer those, but some1 nicked mine:(
