I've got two Eblades and an Eclipse cocker, never, ever had a problem with a paintball hit damaging them. But if you are worried, get a cover..... you might be the first person to have their marker knackered by it and then we'd all look silly
Personaly I think it adds one more flat edge to get hit on..... right where you don't want it too.

Thats what i thort!

I thought the same , it adds bulk to the marker ! Yeah i think im going to leave it off .
