i'm sure there are much safer sports, like croquet, but paintball is safe provided safety measures are taken.

it bloody hurts!

just last sunday, first game, we had a guy run, trip then drive a thron stick through his hand out the other side...had to go to hospital then rushed to a specialist as he destroyed the nerves so he couldnt feel his whole arm:eek:
AFAIK, there have been 2 deaths due to paintball, although i only know about one of them, and the doctor said it was actually paintballs fault

Hm, be interested to hear about that one. The only 2 I've ever heard about were both due to conditions that could have been triggered by just about anything, e.g. heart attack

Searching for the pro-tour....:S
Paintball fatalaties

Heard about one, I think it was last year where a guy was punter balling and recieved a heavy shot to the head, and died a week later due to a stroke. A relative tried to blame the stroke on his paintballing injury. Coroners report said the death was due to poor health and that he would have unfortuantely suffered a similiar fate regardless of the paintballing injury.

Don't know how much truth there is in the story, just what I was told.

i should have mentiond this b4...
i mean the safety of the equipment used...
not falling over or human error.. eg)
gun should b below 300fps
your mask should be the right size and you should be comfatable with it. it also should fit properly.. (we don't want it falling off now)

well yeah, the one i know about basically was a heart attack, except it was a few years ago, and he was playing on a team, and he got shot in the neck somehwhere near an artery, he told his wife he had like a head ache and stuff later that day, then 3 days later, he had a heart attack, as i said, the doctor said it wasnt actually the paintball that did it.

It was an aneurism.triggered by exertion, could have been caused by any effort. Coroners report is available on line.
(he posted it as he felt paintball had been misrepresented in the press. these reports are not usualy made public)
The heart attack thing is possible in any sport....... nerve bunch in the throat called the carotid baro-receptor, get hit hard enough in it and it's like an off switch, dead on the spot......most of those "teen sportsman dies of freak condition" news stories are caused by it..... you've similar nerve bundles in the arm pit, groin etc... all of the martial arts "pressure points" bodies uses them to monitor blood pressure and stuff. Much more likely in rugby etc.... all of the contact sports, unlikely a paintball could hit hard enough (or the force would penetrate deep enough) to trigger it. But there's no research on it, so wear a neck guard and avoid getting in the lancet :)
