But you could legitimately claim that the chrono was moving at 186,00 miles per second and the paintball was perfectly still :D

But as any second rate physicist would be able to tell ya, a chrono cannot be accelerated to the speed of light otherwise it would have assumed infinite mass; a possibility only within the realms of fantasy thus rendering this debate only to be indulged further by Raehl !

You could say that, 130,000 penalty points and banned from next 2500 tournaments.

then it wouldn't beep would it?:)

Relativity states that accelerating to C (the speed of light) is the problem, not actually moving at C.

What would a first rate physicist have to say?

Richard

Richard, hence my use of the word 'accelerated' :)

A first rate physicist would tell you, 'Naff off, I'm busy lookin for the tachion'.....now, that's really not an area you wanna stumble into is it Richard ? :)

You'd have bigger things to worry about if you accelerated to light speed.
Your markers hot.... 50 point penalty.
But you've got a bye as the other team just got ate by a dinosaur.
On the 50, behind the cosmic rift.

And before anyone points out my scientific errors (many scientific errors). 1) I know. 2) Accelerate a Chrono to light speed, then we'll see who's right :D

Ah yes, but Jose was talking about speed not acceleration. After all irrispective of the paintballs acceleration, the chronograph would be observed as moving at C.

Lol, well maybe not, I often find physicistys a bit wierd (don't get me wrong; some of my best friends are physicists, but then again I have some pretty wierd friends...)

Maybe I'm way off, but AFAIK the tachion is analagous to the phonon, it is a theoretical partical allowing physics to be expressed in terms of quantum mechanics, which equates almost anything with a partical, because it make the maths a whole bunch easier. Can you see one of those?

Of course if he was a cosmologist, he might be more likely to be looking for proof that the universe was at critical density, which might make him/her a physicist who might know about chronographs and dopler etc. :p

What was the point of all this again? Other than the fact that I have a break in my labs while my Product seperates form the resin...

Richard, always ready to jump into the intilectual deep end, as long as he has remembered his rubber ring ;)

As far as I know Richard, physics doesn't need the tachion to be able to express itself in quantum mechanics, it manages that quite easily on its own, correct me if I'm wrong young man :)
