Every sport was somewhat young at a certain stage, like Football (soccer u yanks), basketball etc but they were created yonks ago,( i dont know when Basketball was created but i dont like it anyway )
Footy on the other hand was created more than a century ago and look at it today, the most popular sport in the world with many world class stadiums.
So how long will Pball wait until its got its very own status to rival football?
Already tourneys are sometimes played in sports stadiums and thats a good move but when will pball have its own sports stadium?
10yrs 20yrs?30yrs? (hope not)
As i heard it isnt even recognised as a sport yet, but people like Robbo is, ahem....gunnin for it to be recognised as a sport
Most sports get recognition via the media who already screen very little of it.
The campaign cup this september is being screened on Sky but why not screen more tourneys like this?
To get this recognised more we need big outside sponsors like Coca Cola, Nike, Addidas etc.
When these companies get into it wont we see a bigger influx of interest?
Im sure the sports clothes giants like Nike will be interested once more media coverage is given.
If this happens it could open up a good market opportunity.
Along with companies such as Dye, JT etc Nike and Addidas could sell their sports jerseys for Pball in sports stores such as JJB and other big sports chains.
WDP, smartparts etc selling markers and other equipment can also be done.
Wouldnt this make Pball attractive to many people?
What Pball needs is more media coverage in order to give it more appeal.
Many people think its a wargame when thats just restricted to red-ball.
It aint so in tournaments, but how many people know about the tournaments going on when all we do is keep it to ourselves by means of websites or phone.
Things such as posters, news announcments paper articles etc can prove decisive but one problem that we will have with spectators is the woodland tournamnet scenario.
Can u erect a massive seating stadium in the woods? NO.
In concept fields you can
In more ways than one do we have to pull paintball outta the woods and into the concept sup air fileds altogether?
I think so.
The woods aint too appealing to me either but is one factor of our problem to solve public views on Pball?
To them, playing in the woods with guns is classed as a wargame and this is not appealing to them, but a place which is open and attractive such as concept fields are a kind of pulling power.
To put yourself in a none biased view of it all, would you go to see football, basketball, baseball etc when it is played in the woods? No.
Giving the public access via concept fields or stadiums is what they want to do.
This will alter their perception that it can be a sport and not forever be a wargame to them.
Tourney paintball needs more commercial muscle if it is to be a popular sport for decades to come and media coverage is what we need first and most.
We have a limited amount of it but not enough, sell the DVD/Vid's of tournaments in rental shops and not just in paintball mags and paintball shops.
How often does someone who never (walkin into a Pball shop) played the sport wants the PUSH DVD?
Send out copies to Blockbuster and this will rake in interest.
Rent before u buy appeals to most and its giving a good insight into ballin, not rec-ball.
I dont think we will be erecting 500 new stadiums over the next decade for Pball but a couple will do nicely, and from there who knows what will happen.
