You could contact Blue at EMR (emrpb@epix.net) - they have a great paintball museum there with ads and markers and gear from the very beginnings of the game. Blue is really cool - I'm sure he'll give you some info:)

A serious answer

Paintball as we know it began in 1981 in New Hampshire. Bob Gurnsey and others played a game of "Capture the flag" in which each player was thier own 'team'. The object of tht game was to capture 12 flags in a multi-acre field. 12 players, 12 flags, every man for himself.

The winner was a forest ranger who never fired a shot. I'll go look it up in a while, if oyu want names and such. I'm doing htis from memory.

"Skirmish" was formed a while after, with Splatmasters as 'rentals'. This went on for a while, as "Skirmish" became a franchise. Things evolved from there.
