I'm assuming you've already spoken to the manager? If so it might be worth getting legal advice; it may be that you've got a legal case against them and if that is the case, if you show them that you're serious about taking them to court I'm sure they'd see sense and go for an out of court settlement.

Surely the bank would be able to tell you definitively where the money has gone? They can trace who you've sent cheques to, where you've withdrawn cash etc, I cant see why they couldn't do this. Also, if that is the case, is it not their responsibility to get your money back?
i agree too, it is there responsibility but i guess they would have to involve paypal directors but they could at least try and help to discover where it is exactly. we need money with trackers on:rolleyes::p
ask your bank about it.

I get loads of emails from "paypal" saying "you need to update your details on this website" and gives you a link to a fake paypal site.

Thing is, people do actually go on these sites and enter in their details.

I never had a problem with paypal but had many "phishing" emails and it is also scary all the news reports about people putting devices in cash machines. Also another one is petrol stations as they have cameras everywhere and staff use them to get pin numbers.

surely if the money was withdrawn through paypal, it will show up as "paypal" on her bank account? mine always does.

the biggest problem with accounts now is proving you did all the right things to protect the details, such as no., pin, passwords, etc.. if the bank can raise any doubt over these then they can try and pass the blame onto you.

this is creating a bit of a grey area over responsibility for security and it seems that the only way to force the issue is to take the banks (or at least threaten to) small claims court.

on a personal note, i have had no problems with security in paypal or elsewhere - but my wife had £2500 of stationery at a store the opposite end of the country (aberdeen - plymouth) :)eek:) put on her credit card. it had only be issued and used once at a branch of MFI to buy our kitchen, so it was kind of obvious where the git that got the details came from.....

but the problem was they think one of the employees got her details off the system, so its not a paypal transaction.

that sucks, you should alert the police in the area or something.
