right, has any one gone about patenting a thing before?

you have to make a working prototype before you can patent a product, once you gor your desighn and prototype where do you go about patenting it. please tell me how to properly patent something, or any links to websites that would help :)

ive designed a new type of paintball (one that will work more effectively with barrel rifiling and flatlines)

i havent finished making the moulds for the prototype. but im not telling exactly (incase your evil and patent it before me) but it involves internal gelateen structures.

basiclly it (in theory) makies the paintball easier to spin, thereby making it more aerodynamic, and travel further faster.

get a glass of water with ice in it and spin it...imagine the cup is the paintball shell, and the water and ice the contents, as you spin the cup, the ice and water stays pretty much in the same place. thats what you dont want if your gonna spin it effectively.

I am just making a guess about your design here but, I think that there will be a problem with excesive bouncing and perhaps even physical harm or Fps restricions on the new paintball and decreased accurase due to added seems.

Visit the AGD site and read what Tom Kaye has to say about perfectly round paintballs and the tests he did. Mainly for the fact of "perfect" balls already been done (and you can bet he has a patent)

He does still have them made but for law inforcement and military use but only cos they store better

perfect roundness is not what im trying to acheive, its changing the internal structure so that it can be more effectively spun, i read the stuff on agd a while ago, their "perferct paintballs" arent round, therre kinda bullet shaped.

ive taken into account that they may make them more bouncy, but i think ive overcome that problem. Thats while im making prototypes. i there shouldnt be any problem with its speed, as it isnt going to accelerate is it (thats not what you meant, is it?)

you wouldnt beable to tell the difference between the paintball ive designed. in a normal gun you wouldnt see much difference in preformance either, the only difference being is that when its been spun (in a rifled barrel or a flatline) it stays spinning which allows the ball to travel further and decelerate less.

please please tell me all you can about patents, i'd really like to talk to someone whos done it before. also dos anyone know if there are patent records stored online, to check if my idea already exists.

Stop right there!!!!!!!

you need to keep you lips zipped on your patent idea.

if you release to many details on any public domain media type( t.v. radio. publications the net etc) you cannot patent an idea

Many moons ago my old man came up with an idea for a new multi tool and went through the patenting route

The first thing you need to do is find a patenting officer in you telephone book and contact him.
when you go to meet him take as much info as you have in an easily readable format and any investigations you have made.

he will then advise you on what to do next and if he says that it is a good idea he will then investigate all the current patents that refer to your idea and if your idea is not covered by an existing patent he will then set up the patent for you.

the problem is that very few patents actually make it into production and the costs can be very high as getting to production can be a lengthy process.

an example is dyson vacum cleaners.
dyson spent years working on his idea for the cyclone vacum cleaner( even though its a smaller version of an industrial filtration unit) an had to build hundreds of prototypes. even when he had a good version up and running, when he approched the big cleaner manufacturers they dismissed his ideas as fantasy and turned him away. his only plan of action from here was to go into production on his own (very costly)okay he is now a multi-millionaire but getting started up cost him a packet and many years of time and stress.

I'm not trying to put you off as the paintball is the one thing in the sport that seems to be stuck in a timewarp and needs a new injection of ideas. But my suggestion is to go see a patenting officer and see what they have to say and what options are open to you.

And good luck and I hope your idea works.

p.s. my old man gave up on his idea after two years of investigation as the idea was to complicated and was very close two two patents already in circulation.which is why i have to work 40hrs a week and not set to inherite a small fortune:(

hate to burst your bubble

I am not quite sure but I have heard Worr Games is making something like that. In their ball the fill stays adherant to the shell. That may not be what your doing but check it out cause worr would sue you up the ass.
