Bloody lightweight.... 40k is a proper peice of piss, may i recommend something a bit more simple such as Connect 4 for your taste?

Paintcheck is a great idea (i came up with it about 2 years ago, damn me for not copywriting it.) but after sitting down with it on many occasions since i got it at Toulouse its problems are many.

Firstly, the game was originally written in French and the guy who did the translations seems to have been an absolute cripple. The rules aren’t very simple as they are but things are made a lot worse by the repeated grammatical errors in the manual. The manual also is pretty badly laid out and doesn’t make digesting of the rules any simpler.

Another bugbear of mine is that the scale is far too small, moving around the many counters and positioning the range ruler correctly is a total pain when the models fall over all the time. It is desperately fiddly to play with all the counters knocking around.

Paintchecks biggest failing though is that it is almost too comprehensive a rules system. It manages to try and simulate too many things at once which makes it dreadfully clunky to play, almost a chore. Because of this it is too tedious to play as a bit of entertainment between ballers but also it is too slow that so it's probably well over the head of most ballers patience to use as a training aid. Soon adrenaline are gonna be releasing further expansions to the system such as an advanced rules set which is only gonna make things worse.

Hopefully Adrenaline are already working on a rewirte of the core rules to try and remove the tedium of working out all the modifiers and simultaneous events. They should take a few pointers from Games Workshop in how they lay-out their rule books and use examples.....Then again, if they get any closer to ripping off Blood Bowl or other systems such as Heavy Gear then they will get their asses sued off.

Harry Potter

PS. Ok i admit it....Yes I did used to play GW games, my brother works for them, and yes i have painted the figures :p

I really wanted to get this!:( but you chaps have just put me off.

Do you think its worth buying, just to use the pieces for a more graphical explanation of moves, especially after a field walking session? or should I just wait till all the problems (translation/too many rules) are dealt with so I can play it with my kids?
