Paintballs Identity Crisis

I was not there so I don't know nothin, but I do have an opinion
about music being played during a game, it sucks, I don't care
what kind of music it is . As a player I find enough distractions on
the field without a barrage of noise added. If I was a non-player
spectating I might have a different opinion, (I assume the music
was intended to keep spectators in the mood) But who should
the promoters be pandering to here? who pays to play? For
myself their is nothing quite as exciting as the thunder of paint
on an airbunker or the clicking, poping or tinging of markers.

The music was a good idea, and the speakers were directed to the stand in all fairness. OK, you could hear them from the side of the field (next to the running track) but in all honesty, when I stepped foot onto the field I could not hear the music at all. Not once did it interfere with my playing and I played the back corner on the angel and diablo fields closest to the speakers. A nice touch and I even recognised some of the tunes. I am sure it made watching the games a bit more pleasent for the spectators, and especially the 'non-playing people'.

I think they get the tents because they are the top WDP sponsered teams at the tourney.
I doubt it. WDP also sponsors Backlash, Outkasts, Russian Legion, and a number of other teams, none of which had their own tents. Seems kind of odd that a novice team (RRR) would have more 'right' to it's own tent than one of the above.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not denying them anything, just want to know.

The Nelson(spelling?) Girls....
WTF was that all about.
I'm a fairly red blood male type but when I'm at a paintball tournament I couldn't give a sh*t for a couple of girls dancing on tables (although the two ballers dancing was pretty cool and the cheerleaders were pretty cool too)
Did anyone else feel it was out of place or think it felt cheesy?
I liked the one on the far right, she could have danced all day for me ...but seriously, it seemed fairly pointless and totally cheesy. It really made me want to buy Nelson paintballs though.....

Tyger, my man...

Quote from Tyger:
>>>> Paintball is struggling to discover it's own identity. To that end, paintball is doing what many others do when they can't figure out where they fit in. Look at somehtig they'd like to be, and copy it. Go to a skateboard comp, and listen to the music there. We're just copying them so we can be an 'extreme sport' too. Paintball has no solid identiy anymore. Used to be the 'wargame' identity, now we're in this flux stage. And instead of finding it's own place, we're just copying what's worked to make extreme sports accptable.<<<<

Tyger, my man...you get a cookie.
I have never given the topic much thought but what you said there is dead-on the money! Epiphanies rule...like poodles.

Two words for you.............Maurice Gibb.

I am not saying anything bad about the team (which we played in the nov semis and lost to) or Maurice himself but thats why I believe they got the tent. I think it was great that Maurice turned up, and its good that the focus of the weekend was not lost, merely because a celebrity was playing. I had family and friends from all over the country that did not know I was playing, asking me to get his autograph (which I failed miserably at). This goes to prove the added publicity brought to the event by the RRR fairly justifies them getting a tent in my opinion.

Just one question, did they have their own air supply or did they have to walk all the way over to the staging area for air fills? If so, I prefered being in the main area with the other teams.

They were filling from the main air supply... I was quite amazed to be standing there and see Maurice Gibb in front of me in the air queue at one point... in fact it was almost surreal, its not something you expect really........ :)

However my mum was most impressed when I told her

Would have prefered to stay in the main area along with the other teams. Air and paint was over on our side of the running track. Less walking and when your a back man, walking is a bad bad thing!

Tents

Uh, perhaps maybe the teams that had tents wanted them and brought them or had someone bring tents for them? It's a tent, for heaven's sake. If you want one, get one! No one is stopping you. I bring a folding chair for myself, and if I'm playing with people that have a tent or I have one, chances are I'll be under a tent too. Simple, isn't it?
