I have just come back from the Campaign Cup at Crystal Palace and had a fantastic time, well done to everyone involved.

I read a lot about wanting paintball to become more mainstream and be teated as a serious sport.

I also read a lot about paintball being an 'alternative' or 'extreme' sport.

I think the Campaign Cup type of event is the way forward to promote paintball as a mainstream sport.

The one thing that drove me mad was the awful music blaring out in the grandstand all the time.

I know this is supposed to be 'cool' and we are told that this is 'paintball music' but all it did was spoil my enjoyment of the event.

I know I am going to be called a boring old fart but if we are gong to promote paintball you have to take account of us boring old farts.

I know I am not alone because I heard several other people complaining.

I also thought that the graffitti on the teams tents next to the WDP stand gave the wrong image.

I know I am going to get a lot of flak over this posting but I am interested to know what other people think.

One last thing while I am at it, didn't the WDP stand look tacky?

also did anyone else get the impression that the WDP tent was more out of the way than any of the others??
It was tacky as hell, but i guess ifthats how they want to promote it then thats upto them.
i understand what you mean about the graffiti on the tents. especially as that was right by one of the main routes into the arena.
(wasnt as if it was brilliant either)

As for the music it would be fine to describe it as paintballer music if there was any kinda theme to it, but it had such a radical mix of tastes, and explicit lyrics (which i personally dont have an issue with, but there were kids there too) it was hardly a good choice.
they almost got it right for the finals though. bit of pacey music to set it all off, even if the pa kept crackling and effecting it.

What I'd like to know is how come teams like Avalanche, Dynasty, and even the Royal Rat Rangers have their own tents? Was this payed for by them? Other bigtime pro teams, like Bobby's men, were in with the rest of us, why not these guys?
If it's a case of simply renting the space/tents, fine. Just curious.

And yeah, that was some wack graffitti. :D

Paintball is struggling to discover it's own identity. To that end, paintball is doing what many others do when they can't figure out where they fit in. Look at somehtig they'd like to be, and copy it. Go to a skateboard comp, and listen to the music there. We're just copying them so we can be an 'extreme sport' too.

Paintball has no solid identiy anymore. Used to be the 'wargame' identity, now we're in this flux stage. And instead of finding it's own place, we're just copying what's worked to make extreme sports accptable.

I'll tell you what was embarrassing.

The Nelson(spelling?) Girls....
WTF was that all about.
I'm a fairly red blood male type but when I'm at a paintball tournament I couldn't give a sh*t for a couple of girls dancing on tables (although the two ballers dancing was pretty cool and the cheerleaders were pretty cool too)
Did anyone else feel it was out of place or think it felt cheesy?

I think they get the tents because they are the top WDP sponsered teams at the tourney.
