got this from pbnation

Is this our first step towards the Olympics?
I just arrived with my teams from Salinas – Ecuador, where it took place the 2nd Olympic Festival “Salinas 2004”. This event is promoted by the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee and in its second year invited our sport of Paintball to join them as an exhibition sport.

12 teams were invited from Colombia, Peru, Venezuela and Ecuador to compete against each other in a 5man format under NPPL rules. The event ran smooth with no major reffing problems at all and after 2 days of rough competition it came to a happy ending.

The Ecuatorian Olympic Committe decided to extend this invitation for 2005 and were very supportive in helping us contact directly our Olympic Committes (Colombian, Peruvian and Venezuelan). Maybe if all of us paintballers unite and start pushing our local Olympic Committes we could be seen in the 2008 Olympics as an exhibition sport. I heard we missed the 2004 Athens Olympics for just a few votes. Lets unite our forces and see each other in 2008 in the Olympics.

Just my opinion but share your two cents here

Has this happened before in any other country?
Is it maybe our first steps to become a recognized sport in the Olympic Committe?

if we had paintball in the olympics it would cause a few problems, such as...

1) All the teams would need exactly the same kit (guns, hoppers, battle packs)
2) the teams would have to be given the same amount of paint and it would have to would all have to be the same type.
3) U.S.A Would just own everyone

Tis true but its still a step in the right direction for the sport, more people may define it as a sport.

I will give my 2 cents

why is it that the guns and so on and so forth have to be all the same?

Lets not forget guys tha the americans maybe better then us at paintball but we invented the gun that they all use. Angels. YOu get where i am coming from. We all can't be far off with the paintball game.

Lets not count out the smart parts also invented here in england.
I mean the freak barrel what a market corner to have.

1) Err why? I don't see all the sprinters wearing the same spikes, or the pole volters using the same pole or....oh you get what I'm trying to say here.
2) So what if all teams had the same amout of paint per game, as long as it is a sensible amount then there's no problem, just give your back guys 80% of it then send out the fronts to mug everyone ;) :p :D
3) Pfft......I say come on then. :D

In all honesty tho there would be some strict regulations put into place if this did happen which would have to be adhered too. Some aspects would I assume have to change (like for eg: some of the tanrums and arguments that happen with refs) red & yellow cards, that kinda thing. I think getting paintball into the Olympics even if it is as an invitation sport is just what we need, and will help us towards obtaining a consistent approach to rulings accross all tournament varients.
