Good point, well made.

I suppose the same question but with 'synchronised swimming' would get the same answer because I don't see how it is

'widely practised by men in at least seventy-five countries and on four continents, and by women in at least forty countries and on three continents'

either!!

Unless Chris Edwards does that as well as trampolining?

Synchronized Swimming is a different beast (as is beach volley), they're not sports of their own, but they are under a bigger IF (swimming or volley ball). I can't recall for my life how this is called, and can't be arsed to go to the IOC site to search for it :)

Good question about baseball, thought ;) I guess it's played all over America, Japan, maybe Australia... and probably one of your esoteric sports (cricket, crocket, beer gulping?) can be considered as some form of baseball too ;)

Since the Dutch just hosted the baseball worldchampionship it's not quite hard to find some info on that.

Below are some countries that entered;

Cuba, the Netherlands, Australia, China, Taipei, Columbia, Greece, Japan, Nicaragua, Panama, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, US, Canada

Countries which not entered the competition;
Aruba, Puerto Rico, Brazill, Italy, Nigeria, Great Britain, Tjech, Oceanië (don't know how to translate that one :S)

25 so far, it shouldn't be that hard to come up with 50 other (without using all 50 US states ;))

Besides I always had the impression that the IOC favoured france not the states.

I don't think that finding 75 countries in which paintball is being played is a problem, nor is finding women who play. The real challenge is how to get them all to agree on a standard format, a basic set of rules and to unite them in 1 federation.

So if everyone works really hard perhaps it can be pulled of in time for the olympics of 2020?

Canoe / kayak??
Fencing??
Pentathlon??
Softball??
Weightlifting??
Wrestling??

Well.... I only wonder if these are actually more widespread than paintball?

Have a look at this link - http://www.olympic.org/uk/sports/recognized/index_uk.asp - if "sports" like these can make it to the Olympics, then please tell me why paintball can´t! Do they have drugtesting in bridge - boule - chess? And what is "korfball" and "wushu" anyway?

OH MY GOD - the frustration!

Kayaking is hugely widespread and massively popular.

Wushu is basically a display version of various Chinese martial arts - I was under the impression it was being brought in as a display only event for Beijing as it is not really a sport or a martial art. Kind of a standardised set of routines developed after the cultural revolution - very acrobatic.

Korfbal is a sport of Dutch origin :rolleyes:, a bit of a dull sport, the only good thing about it is that man and women are allowed to play in the same team.

I'll try to find a pic

Edit: here it is;

2 baskets, 2 teams, 1 ball. To score the ball must go through the basket of the opposing team.

i think you lot would enjoy gaelic football.

basically fifteen men per side turn up for a fight, and a ball gets thrown in.

at some point a game eventually breaks out...................
