Some questions if I may Mr R.

You have 40K unique visitors - is that to p8ntballer or p8ntballer-forums or both?

If there were no forums then do you think that 40K would stay the same? and would your mag selling rate stay the same?

Also, what about an offer where people can pay for mags individually, with a rebate if they subscribe, that way they can havea taster for one issue with little outlay, especially usefull for international peeps where distrubution might be a problem.

The 40k (peaking at summat like 72k for June) is to the site as a whole. I'm not sure how many unique visitors come to the forums - I'll see if we can get that info. But, I think it's fair to say that if it was the case, you'd end up with a higher number of 'guests' on the 'users on line' bit.

We're getting a significant number of subs each month, way higher than the number of new people joining the boards, so I guess losing the forums wouldn't impact that much?

The trial offer on the subs is interesting, and it's summat we do on our other mags that are more uk based. I tell you what may happen though, we might be innundated with 1000s of single copy sales, but by the time we'd mailed out we'd be down on the deal - ie an expensive taster (most of the expense come in the follow-up, ie trying to convert them into proper subscribers) It's worth doing the sums though.

It may sound a bit like a stuck record, but how about an almost two tier forum structure, with membership requirements for each. The lower level can view but not contribute to the higher level (big names, company owners, mahooosive experience, team owners, well known and vetted members), unless each post is approved. The lower level is open to all, but less stringently moderated (sort chatroomy in parts).

I know sponsership moneys is tight, but given that the forums do indirectly contribute to company revenues, perhaps small sponserships could be granted (eg Bling Bling marker forum sponsored by WDP).

I (excuse the spelling mistakes, was rushing to output).

We aint going to close em down... what the fk would we do with all the time on our hands?

The two-tier thing is interesting, and summat the mods have been kicking around behind closed doors - or at least Baca has with the PGPF.

I tell you as well Stongl, it never ceases to surprise me how reluctant paintball companies are to spending on web advertising. This site for instance has more visitors than many of the paintball magazines put together, yet they'd rather sepnd 100 times as much taking pages out in mags that are seen by a couple of monkeys and TJ.

Buddha. I agree. I think there are loads of threads that are killed by mundane ramblings. I think we closed one earlier when perhaps we should have just pruned it.

Rancid,

I really meant for those that "stumble" on p8ntballer.com through google/yahoo etc, which is also more likely to be those from countries without PGI available through major channels, they might not have ever seen it. Keep it an online only thing and you can just have their e-mail for follow up subscription offers - cheap as chips.

and as for weedave - please shut up you're annoying (not just)me and ruining the thread :)

Can I compare, for a moment, to Half-Life mods?

There a quite a few which I've downloaded after visiting their particular forum, yet I've never joined those forums.

Why have I never joined? Call it the niche thing - too many already established groups talking about their things.
However, I still go back to those forums, to see what's going on, view any important announcements about the latest downloads etc.

A couple of those forums I have joined in with, when I felt the need to say something, and have been made to feel more than welcome, something which definately happens here.

Back to p8ntballer, an image that's just popped into my head.
The forums are kinda dual purpose:
You get the announcements regarding what's happening in the big leagues, so everyone can keep up.

And the 2nd thing? Kinda like paintball's equivalent to the Osbourne show, but with a bigger family - all the non-registered guests are like our audience, dropping in to see who's bitching at who, etc etc.

But that's just my ramblings.

Oh, and if you do end up with a members thing going on, I reckon anybody who's member ID is under, say 20, should automatically get in! ;) :D

The two tier thing could work well, for adverts for up coming events and the like.

If Blakey from the MM wanted to give us dates or updates on events. No-one needs to reply. If they want to book, they ring him.
So a "Authorised post only" forum, or "tier" would be a good idea. to help promoters keep their useful info available for longer without getting bogged under with us really annoying spammers.

The other thing is that people use the forums to keep upto date with the fast moving world of paintball. Would we all have had to have waited for the next PGI to tell us about Salm's Sniper activities at the world cup?
it kinda makes life easier for the PGI team because they dont have to write/run the smaller, short term stories that have such an influence in the way the game is perceived.

It also gives 90% of the people here on the forum a good reason not to be working. and that can never be a bad thing, can it?
