I guess it's no surprise that overall I liked it.
I think they could've layed down some plywood to and from the player's area (wheels don't roll very well in sand and I'm famous for having a heavy bag), and the water jugs had sand in them, but those are minor complaints. My little sister, niece, and nephew finally got to see me play, and I actually did well that game. They were very excited about being able to run along beside me (yes, I know...but it didn't seem to make a difference) as I moved and they were very excited about getting "hit" (I was confused at first but apparently they got splatter from some of the fire I was taking). That to me was more important than watching the breasts of the HSP model on Sunday...well...yes, it was more important...really...they were really nice brea... it was funny listening to someone talk about a player "refueling" his gun when the player was dumping a pod, and the pier was crowded with people watching, that never would've gone to a paintball game otherwise. It can only be good for paintball. I really liked the fact that the scheduling was done early, and the games were on time. The chrono-ing tent could've been a little larger (we weren't allowed to leave the tent once our gun was chrono'd if the current game was almost over), I know I like to be friendly, but that kind of closeness was a bit much...it's a little disturbing to know just how many ribs your buddy's barrel has on it's tip... It was nice having individual team tents rather than one or two huge tents. I never really had to wait for air, the bathrooms were close by the air station, although I'd rather they were in the player's area so I could get air AND use the bathroom in the same trip. All the tech tables, like the VL table, should've been in the player's area, so that we could just walk over with our gear after getting air instead of making a second trip. Maybe a set of steps dedicated for going over the fence? Maybe a little wider passage beside the NPPL field, especially once the chrono tents went up. All minor things. I liked the focus that the field setup gave...I like playing aggressive instead of sitting and shooting 'til the last minute of the game...especially since I usually die in the first minute, whether I did anything important or not...I look better if I've eliminated three people before I die, rather than dying while sitting behind a bunker. I think some of the chrono's were a little wiggy. Maybe the metal drums were playing havoc with the radar readings? It seemed that there were times that everyone's gun (except mine :) it's nice to be able to chrono on at 260 fps and not worry) was hot, after just finishing another game where everyone was "on".
Anyway, I liked it, liked the fact that there were "outside" sponsors, and really, really liked the breasts on that HSP model...oh, did I say that out loud?

Hb Event reponse to Shamu

I know that you probably were not meaning to knock the event with the set-up. However for them Pure Promotions/WDP to
buy all new equipment and get it all set up for the first event
before thrusday was a tuff task.
I wasn't meaning to knock the event at all. I was one of the guys out there working 14 hour days to get it ready. Now that they've got one event under their belts, I'm sure future events will be just as good.

For those that don't know, the city required the promoters to leave the beach in the exact condition it was before the event. That's why bunkers had netting with extra dirt under them. Workers actually picked up every single ball shot during the tournament!

As for the sand, let's just say that diving into the sand all day I ended up with sand in some places that chafed  :D

Everyone said the psp/nppl would respond when skyball started 5 years ago too. All they did was move their LA event the next year so people couldn't play both.

This year they'll be forced to make their events better, but they'll find a way to cut corners and save money. They always do.

Printing up "prize certificates" that aren't honored has always been a good way saving the promoters money in the past. They'll probably continue that tradition.

I was impressed by the S7 HB event. Hopefully they have many more like it.

One thing I noticed was a lot of media attention. I was listening to kiis fm (not my normal choice of music) and they did about a 5 minuet segment on it. For the most part they shined paintball in a good light and strayed away from that military image we are trying to exscape. Some of the info was little out dated but the most part I think it did alot to gain exceptance from the mainstream.

I thought it was the BEST tourney I have ever seen, and I've been to most of bigger ones all over the world. Again WDP have set a new standard, after Hyperball, the Angel, the DJ's the Heavens, etc. they have again out done themselves and showed the rest of the pack how to run a killer event in which the players definetly came first!!
