OUT OF ORDER AT SKIRMISH series 2k3

The Millennium rules are indeed like Beaker said. A player can discard pots and squeegies after use. As long as they are still 'attached' to the player, any hits on them count as such.
Ofcourse that might different in these series, and it seems like that's what Steve is saying, in which case it was a good call by the ref.
Guys, before starting to shout "that ref sucked", please contact the tournament's organisers, it might put a different perspective on things. If after that, you still think the reffing sucked, feel free to share it with the world :D At least then your opinion will be worth more.

As a parting gift, a little word of wisdom that my American football coach once shared with me: "Referees don't win games, players do."

I Know this is technically equipment but for gods sake man!!!!!!!!.
Really suckes that - why didn't the ultimate say something about that.

It would appear that knaggsy needs to get some of his marshalls onto some marshall courses or even ask them if they actually know the rules - would be surprised at how many really do.

Otherwsise good site :) :)

Hey Budda,

The issue was taken up with the Ultimate at the end of the day (the call was made in the playoffs), who also agreed this was a bad call at the time.

All Phoenix asked was that this didn't happen again. What you are looking at is a little venting, not backstabbing.

I'm normally not one to bitch.. but Field 1 was terrible.. Our first game of the day and...

One of our guys on the 50 took a player out wide left, (3 hits on the back.. blatant) then took another 2 out within a few seconds.. to be lit up 10-20 seconds later buy the first guy who had been called clean by the marshal (not the players fault. He did the right things and called for a paint check). Our guy was pulled and the 2 other players he took out were put back in the game because he was deemed to have been out before he shot them  .. Then.. 10 seconds later, the first guy was called out by a Marshal on the other side of the field because of the 3 hits on his back! even though no-one else had been shooting him..

What's going on there! we went from a 5 on 3 scenario to a 4 on 5 and lost the game.

Complaints to the field ultimate resulted in nothing and put a downer on our whole day.

I know, I know.. mistakes happen, we're all human, but when it happens to you it's a pi$$er.

All in all an excellent day.. spoilt by a few "bad decissions".

RE: Si helfish:
It was worse than that 'cos actually...... the first guy I hit was their back left corner (and he walked immediately), then I hit the disputed player cross field, I called the paint check, knew I'd hit and moved to their mid field player who hadn't seen me, as I popped out (to take out my third target.who was left in play) I was lit up by the player who was then eliminated for the earlier hits. This all happened within the first 30 seconds of the game, so we should have been 5 to 2.

I've got two problems with this:
1) Can a player be put back in by a marshal when he acknowledges a wrong call? e.g. re-setting players? I'm inclined to agree with the ultimate on this one i.e. no (too confusing), but if so, why did I see it happen on two other occasions?

2) Quote from opposing team "Yeah, but if you're hit and a marshall is on you, you keep playing until he calls you" am I being overly naive again? because when I feel a hit, I get in cover and call a paint check as I thought "playing on" when you feel a hit is cheating?

Note to anyone asking "don't you play on", ask any of the spectators on the hyperball field for our matches, during both breakouts I felt a hit... the first time vs the Keltic warriors (in the testicles as is traditional) so I immediately dropped low behind cover falling comically in the process.. no burst, but was taken out because of the delay. And in game two, had to drop into the wrong bunker when I felt a hit on my right shoulder. couldn't see it and had to yell for a marshall, no burst.. so played on.

Note: I've marshalled and I know how hard it is, I'm not blaming the marshals..... just the consistency. I refuse to slag anyone who's spending a day not playing until they are paid enough to take $#!+ from us. The Marshals are for the most part, doing it to keep the sport going, not for personal gain, without them (no matter how inexperienced) we have no sport.

Re-setting players in my opinion should not be done. All it will do is cause arguments, against discissions made by the marshals on the off chance they will "re-set" the player.
It also confuses the hell out of the opposite team !

Playing on - if you have taken a hit and play on whilst the marshal is watching you, you should be pulled 1'4'1.

Marshalling

As everyone knows, we all get on both the right side and wrong sideof dodgy calls from tourney to tourney from time to time, it is a bitter pill to swallow though when it happen in the playoffs.

Must admit we did not have much trouble all days, but with 40 teams each playing at least 6 times, 240 games in a day, you are always going to get the 'odd' decision go against you. Even if you get 'pro' marshalls in you are always going to get a few ropey calls, just as you do in any sport. I dont think you will ever solve it as I cant see how video replay or anything could be used event at the highest level.

I would like to also make the point that once again, I witnessed a few dummy's being spat out at marshalling decisions (field 3 was a cracker! with one player almost staging a sit in protest  ) Its like anything boys, sometimes you win sometime you lose, but for Christ sake learn how to lose gracefully. I have never winessed a ref/marshal/umpire change his mind, so for f$*@s sake some people need to grow up !

Phoenix, you seem to have hard done by !

just my 2p, and BTW well done to us for coming second !
