I'm an Audio installation engineer and I love seeing well built sound systems ,car or club... .
come down and do some work in colchester...

all the clubs hear have sooo many cross overs and filters on their systems to protect them from the loser DJ's, they drop to about 60hz then turn off... sounds awful :(

When I was a lad, I used to put stupid sound systems in my car(s). My finest install was my Clio Williams with 2 Phoneix Gold Amps and some JL 12's. Made your ears bleed.

These days, I frikkin hate the cnuts with loud car stereos. Especially the ****s who drive around at 11 p.m. with sh*tty Baseline coming out of their Fiesta ST's. W*nkers.

yeh i know the kind. The police my way know me so if i abuse the law much more, my cars will get towed and crushed... end of :(

but, i HAVE grown out of it, i have 3 cars and they all have the original stereos in them. its just my work cars that have been played with, and they get put in a lock up from september till june...
i give a lot of crap to one of my lads because he drives around NON-STOP with volume on full whack... to be honest... its just plain embarassing!

:p yeh they are actually, a doddle :)

however to make them sound good is a different matter! As you know the box makes a big difference and you guys have all the space you need. we just have to make them sound as best as we can in the environment!

you probably know Eminence then :p we were their biggest dealer in Europe ;)

Not familiar tbh ...use a lot of Tannoy ,Audio Technica, Crown,Yamaha blah blah ..it's a long list. I know what you mean about the space issues in cars it's a skill...

Run any Cap's in that Van install? Couldn't see any and normally people make a feature of them if they go in.

I used to play about with Rockford Fosgate stuff, Punch 40's etc, Cerwin Vega.
I only really used to have two subs, a 12 or 15 and a 10, one for the low stuff and one for the tight fast stuff. You need the bass to be there in any SQ Car, but it doesn't have to be excessive unless your going for SPL.

Did try an 8 inch under the passenger seat with a 30 odd Hz baseline on test, ladies seemed to like it:D

I was more interested in quality than quantity, so it would be active cross overs, Mid/bass Mid and tweeters up front, DSP with a Mic to set the Image etc.

Used to make me laugh when the local boys would be really impressed about fitting their 6x9's (Or 7x10's if they were almost educated) in their standard, flimsy rear shelf in their Nova, standard speakers up front. "Yeah dude that's great, but...tell me, if you went to a concert, which way would you face?"

And running their Power, signal and speaker cable, all together done one side of the car...very entertaining.

Found a great substitute for Dynamat at work! Not quite as good, but cheap enough to double up if needed.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

LOL:D

Yeah, well...lingo was to a minimum. SQ is Sound Quality, SPL is Sound Pressure Level (lots of subs) DSP is Digital Signal Processor, sometimes have an EQ (Graphic Equaliser) built in:D

Mind you, this is a few years back when the removable and stealth Front plates on Head Units came out. Had Pioneer stuff mainly as head units. Really liked the DSP as it had cool graphics!

That sort of stuff has been out ages for Hi Fi, but it was cutting edge in cars at the time. Strap the Mic to the head rest of the drivers seat and shut the door and the DSP would set the speakers up to fire at the right time, so that the sound got there at the same time, then it would set the image up so it was just in front of your sitting position, groovy stuff.

I used to amp up the front speakers and sub/s and just run the rears off the Head Unit. And I used to put a switch on the dash, that was cut into the Amp switch on from the head unit, so that I could switch off the subs if needed.
