Ordering from the states to UK

Ask the company your buying from to take it out of its original box and put it in a standard cardboard box then you will probly get away without paying vat etc.

Tell the company to mark it as a Gift and that avoids all taxes and customs charges.

Labelling as a gift is fine, if it can also be labelled as having a value less that 45euros (£36)...which is an option but dodgy insurance wise.
