NXL violation?

Get jealous? How about ditch NXL entirely for what NPPL is delivering which their current gig is only promising? Not only should they be skeptical of the contracts, but of the rewards being there to begin with. Right now a contract for pay, TV coverage, etc. isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Do you send your car to the mechanic to get a new transmission on it then come to pick it up after having paid them money and waited for them to do the job, then ask him if he installed it and get "Maybe" for an answer? It might be there? You'll find out when you drive it?!?! Of course not. That would be ludicrous. It's either on the car or isn't. You can look at it and check for yourself, touch it if you like. If it isn't, you tell them to put it on there or give you your money back.

Were it me, I'd put up with none of that.

Dissention

If the quote from Bobby is true, it should make for an interesting situation. You have some teams directly owned by PSP members - NY Xtreme, Aftershock, Ironmen, AAs. Then consider the teams that are not directly owned by PSP members - Bob's team (whatever they're called this week), Trauma, Miami, Detroit.

Assume the PSP teams will only play Xball, because that's what the $pon$or$ want. You still have four teams of players that could decide to play NPPL or Millenium, for whatever reason. If the exclusivity clause is enforced, the new league could lose up to half of their current teams, or a number of top players.

If the exclusivity clause isn't enforced, I wouldn't be surprised to see a cascade effect over the course of the season. Two or three players doing S7 in the first event, a couple more in the second, maybe an entire team by the end of the season.

Not saying this is going to happen, just that it will be interesting to see how the NXL will enforce the exclusivity rules.

Sounds like paintball will soon have become a "real" sport...

By this I mean - the players will have to soon start a players union.

Now don't get wrong - I don't think that players should be allowed to play wherever and whenever they want - ONCE THEY HAVE SIGNED A CONTRACT - but up until then they should be able to do whatever they want to whoever they want as many times as they want.

After "said players" sign on the dotted line though that should be the end of it. No they shouldn't be allowed to play elsewhere - they signed to play NXL - and the whole purpose is to create a league where teams/players remain fairly constant and a spectator following can be achieved. After all you don't see Shaq playing for some European club basketball team during his off season. If players feel they are getting a bum deal for their participation in the NXL then don't sign - but there are plenty others who will.

Now what IS needed is a union for those NXL players to ensure that they don't get screwed - after all they are the ones playing the game. Make sure you all get what is deserved - but remember that you have signed on to make the NXL a money making venture - and playing in every other event takes the exclusivity away from the NXL - thereby hurting potential revenue, thereby hurting your potential winfall in the future.

If you believe what all the industry know-it-alls are saying, paintball is on the verge of becoming truly "professional" but that also means that "us" as players will have to start acting like pros- but not until the contract is SIGNED.

Sorry Robbo, wasn't implying it wasn't true. What I meant was "If the quote from Bobby is indicative of the overall mindset of NXL players and captains"

'Course, now I sound like a lawyer... :D

Bob L encouraged his players to play the NPPL S7 event and delayed sigining contracts so they could.

Bobby was at the S7 event looking for young front players.

Tyler is staying with STP for the year. STP is his team. he won't be going back to Bobby unless they get beat down. Guess that's why Bobby was rooting for STP, he wants Tyler back. They were all shooting BL Sig series Timmys though.

Once players sign contracts, they are bound. Unless x-ball goes down in flames. The PSP promoters don't really care about x-ball all that much. They just want to:
1. make money
2. promte their businesses
3. promote their teams
4. make money

The only person that cared about x-ball (richmond) already sold out.

Bob, u r obviously 'in the know' and are for political reasons staying anonymous, that's your prerogative of course which I can understand to some extent.
But, would u please care to explain why and how you think Richmond has sold out ?

I spoke with a few NXL guys at HB that were not allowed to play because they had either already signed or their sponsors "preferred" they did not play, whatever that meant. The general feeling I got from them was that HB was an awesome event to watch and they were happy paintball was moving in the right direction. They also mentioned that they looked forward to seeing what the PSP would do in response to HB and that in the long run it's probably best for the player. And here a lot of people thought that the PSP/NPPL split was going to be the end of the world ;) Of course those guys wanted to be playing HB, but for whatever reason they decided to stick with the NXL because they are being told it is going to go somewhere. It's a gamble and the worse thing that can happen is they miss a season of playing any event they choose. But it very well could be the opening up of doors we've never seen before. As for Bob's guys it came down to that they had not signed the contracts yet and Bob told them they could play if they wanted to.... what would have been interesting is if Bob would have shown up with his whole team to play!

Richmond doesn't have say over his own creation. He sold it to the PSP. I think that puts X-Ball in the hands of people who don't really care about it.

I mis-typed above. Bobby was not rooting for STP. If they fall on their faces, Tyler will be back to Bob's Men.

Bob, u saying the PSP actually now own X-Ball ?

And if they do own it, presumably you also know the PSP members who bought it are the team owners are they not?
With all the monies they have already put in and are going to have to find this year, I think they might well care about what happens with X-Ball don't you ?

I doubt your mistake you mentioned was a typo, I think you just got the facts wrong :)
