NXL on ESPN2....

It's the new grading structure in America these days. Nobody fails. It wouldn't be good for their self-esteem. C+ is what you get when you can't spell your own name, keep getting your fingers caught in your shoelaces and only recognize the alphabet as a kind of soup.

And yes, on further reflection it was what A. called it, but at the time of my first post on subject I was so appalled I was trying to be even-handed and it didn't deserve the effort.

Wow !

I'm baffled!

Having not seen the broadcast, I can only go by what I hear...... but it gives me a great deal of pause, that production was apparently SO bad.

I mean - DCP is supposed to be one of the best production companies in the world...... how on earth can they then do such a poor job at producing?

How hard can it be to watch an NFL broadcast, and then translate exactly the same principles into producing a paintball broadcast????

Jumping from player to player all the time
All kinds of different angles during live play (not replays)
commentary that sounds to be downright stupid
Etc.

It SOUNDS completely amateurish - and like very little thought has been put into letting the viewer understand what is actually going on!!!

I look forward to seeing it myself, to see if it is really that bad..... but it seems DCP have completely dropped the ball in postproduction here.

oh "another blue player was shot'" another favorite quote. c'mon. They spend prolly 200k on the philly americans this year to hone their skills, so they skimp on the production to save what? money. I know several kids that could add heads up display and better editing even with crap footage. They also need to learn about color saturation.

Dont get me wrong. The company I work for sat on the sidelines. I sat in a board room and helped make that decision, but never, ever did I want to be proven wrong so badly. I wanted them to wow me, I wanted them to make us look like idiots for not getting in on the NXL or even get a B grade, but it didn't happen. It was a diservice to the players, the fans and the hope of one day putting paintball on the box in a consistent manner.

In comparison to the door field event on espn years ago, where money was less, organization was less and even production standard was lower, this was, in comparison, worse. But, what do I know. I wish Pete was still around.

One thing I don't understand.....

....Is why everyone is blaming Smart Parts for it?

I honestly don't think DCP gave SP any creative control what so ever..... when it comes to post-production.

Maybe everyone had too high expectations of DC's production company

after all if the following shows is the trackrecord DCP is famous for

American Dreams (NBC)
Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve(ABC)
Golden Globe Awards(NBC)
American Music Awards (ABC)
Academy of Country Music Awards (CBS)
The Family Television Awards (WB)

There is no real sign of a thorough knowledge considering
covering sports or fast action paced events
So maybe the NXL coverage was meant to be a spinoff of another DC production: Bloopers (ABC)

I don't know how much you've been involved with TV production, but once they are done shooting and go into post production, it is very rare that the atheletes/teams have ANY say in how the thing is put together.

Might have been different here - I don't know - but it would surprise me to learn it was.
