Paul, the problem, I got with that is this, yes, most of the posts are as you describe but they are what they are and are not pretending to be anything else....and are perceived as such.
The problem I got with Chris is that debate is cool if all parties involved have at least, a loose adherence to the principles of logic, reason, and fair mindedness.
He displays none of these attributes after a few posts have been made that rebut his.
He is young, he is obviously impressionable and certainly has a touch of arrogance, which in itself in not such a crime but when you couple that with a skin of a pachyderm, it is a recipe for extended threads going absolutely nowhere....and in that instance, give me the 75 % drivel any day of the week !!!
Pete
I certainly understand your position and I can only say that while I sometimes get a wee bit irritated at the tone I think the sum of the content is instructive and thus, worthwhile. I'm never trying to convince Chris of anything when I reply to his posts but rather offering a different (usually) point of view, as far more peeps read these things than ever reply to them.

To get back into the substance of the discussion that's supposed to be behind this whole thing, read this and weep:
__________________________
OK, now that WC is over i think i can tell this story:

Before Adrenalin2's game against Hate, the ref came over to our starting point with a handheld chrono. Everybody chronoed under 300, except yours truly (of course) who shot 325, 319,322! I went to ask our podbitch for the #3 metric allen, but the ref stopped me.

"Forget it man, just play, just play." he said. I couldnt believe it! I was actually SCARED; I could only imagine what the other team was shooting!

I didn't play well that game and got myself shot. As i was walking off the field i took a bonus ball to the hopper that went CLEAN thru both sides of the shell. I could only shake my head in disbelief.
____________________________

That was from a thread on PBnation. Here's another:

____________________________
pretty much the same thing happened to me...i chronoed on like 315 one game ...and since it was my backup gun and the reg wouldn't go out anymore the chrono judge told me to just go out there...i really didn't want to go on but the ref said don't worry about it, go ahead you are holding up the schedule...it was going on the JT field for me. thank god things are built to a factor of safety about 2-3 times what they are rated at...masks at like 600fps instead of 300fps...
____________________________

If there is even a smacking of truth to these posts then here's something that really gets my blood boiling. Major safety violations far outweigh cheating, crappers, hamburgers and grandstands. Period Full Stop.

I know you have to take any post with a grain of salt but I'm going to cross-check the games mentioned in the first post with who's posting it and which fields. This is major unforgiveable. OR?

Paul, I agree with you 100% in all you say and perhaps I should be more thick skinned like our pachydermic friend and it wouldn't get to me sooo much.
Indeed there are lessons for us all to learn out of this.

But you are right the sum total is probably instructive but like any sum, it is the possible addition of both negative and positive values, whilst the outcome may well be positive in instructional terms, the vast majority of that positive input is coming from the rebuttals...but I suppose it matters not as there is a bigger picture going on here and one that I ignored in favour of closing the thread down.
A thread that was beginning to irritate me more and more !
I suppose I just can't stand people like him, I mean, I'm an arrogant, pig headed f##k sometimes, but I been round the block a few times, I’ve done my apprenticeship in the game, he ain't and that's the point.
Well, that and he don't listen to jack-**** !
I think TJ summed it the best for me with his,
‘Some people are passionate about their points and argue accordingly and some people argue just because they can’.
Or something like that !

Hey Steve, that's no way to start up a debate. You posted something that most sane people will agree with, so there won't be mamy arguments. That's no fun. :D

Back to the topic at hand though, I would not have closed the thread myself (could have, but didn't). Hell, I was just getting involved! But I did increasingly feel that I was talking to a wall, and it was just turning into a yes/no/yes/no discussion, which wasn't really going anywhere anymore.

What I brought up is nothing short of scandalous if true. Far beyond the other stuff. I'm opening a new thread.

In all honesty, I think that to be able to counter some of the points he made (well, most really), you didn't even need one iota of paintball knowledge. All it took was a bit of an analytical mind, the ability to work with demographics, some business sense, and perhaps some experience in running largish events.

But let's try to not let this turn into a Chris bashing thread, okay?

Can we just bash college x-ball, if we can't bash Chris? I saw two players run into each other off the break one game and I almost cried I laughed so hard. It was like watching the circus.

Where did he go anyway? Did the mean and nasty Robbo chase him off?

Well I would sincerely hope he wasn't chased off anywhere but there was a groundswell against him and he just did not seem to want to acknowledge his untenable position in it all.
Now as I see it, he is either taking a rest, which is cool, or his ego got the better of him and will skulk away in search of another forum, less well endowed with expertise, experience and intelligent posters.
He will have no problem finding any !!
But I really hope he does stay so he can contribute but being a little more considered and reflective.
We'll see if he is mature enough to handle one of life's inevitable, if unwanted lessons.
