Nppl thread Raehl/Robbo thingy

I think we should open this again. Or at least start it off again with a summary of what is being discussed. I curse that I've been on the busy side of late and have only just caught up with it - jeez guys, THIS IS WHAT THIS SITE IS ABOUT: semi intelligent (like I said I've been busy) DEBATE.

And you know, when it all settles down, there aint that much distance between your posts - kin el, I've read most of them and except for thinking you've cobbled em out of mine six months ago, there's some original thought here.

We launched this site to cater for intelligent, progressive discussion cos we were all fed up with the rest of the **** out there; these threads should be championed.

C'mon let's get it on.

Well, I tell ya what, if Chris 'OED' Raehl wants to start a new thread off, and I hope he does, we'll see who dives in again to engage with him in debate.

Yeah, what am I gonna do now? I have no more active threads to send me e-mail. Lane doesn't seem to get around to answering my dissertations very quickly on the PSP forum. Besides it was fun to see Chris Raehl become kinda like those games at arcades and carnivals where you have these creatures that you bang down and they keep popping back up.

Another fun thing about that thread: you could almost feel the redness of Robbo's face and the veins popping out on his neck.

But I guess a new thread will get started when Chuck and gang show their cards at Vegas.

I think it might be better to leave the thread open and just ignore him if you don't agree with his posts. I'm not sure ever locking a thread because of a difference of opinion is a good thing.

Otherwise I'm sure it will all just get dragged up and added to another post which is easier to read and therefore people may actually read it and listen to the views expresssed At least in that thread few people could even be bothered keeping up with the drivel

Just take deep breaths and let the annoyance factor wash over you. If we don't debate with him he will eventually run out of steam and the thread will die of it's own accord.

You are right I know but there's many things we all do that sometimes fly in the face of reason, but there are occasions, like this, where reasoned debate is sacrificed, in Chris's case, just because he wants to see his name up in lights, or won't back down, is being deliberately contrary or worse, is just being a biased ******* !!
Ain’t got no time for peeps like him, I should just ignore him but when i saw the tally of rebutters mounting and all he was doing was coming out with the same ole crap...even tho, he was being told right left and centre he was wrong...it just got too much for my ole 'Super Moderator' fingers to bear..I succumbed to the dark side and neutered the thread.
And do I regret it ?
Not a frikkin bit !!!
But I do agree it could have been handled better

If the new sticky is supposed to be the re-start I think it's rather unclear.
Also gotta agree with Rancid. [There's some more brain cells gone.] When 75% (and that's being charitable) of the posts are drivel anything that discusses things pball in a serious way is worthwhile.
With Chris it's easy--just don't answer and he stops. It's happened lots of times before.

Paul, the problem, I got with that is this, yes, most of the posts are as you describe but they are what they are and are not pretending to be anything else....and are perceived as such.
The problem I got with Chris is that debate is cool if all parties involved have at least, a loose adherence to the principles of logic, reason, and fair mindedness.
He displays none of these attributes after a few posts have been made that rebut his.
He is young, he is obviously impressionable and certainly has a touch of arrogance, which in itself in not such a crime but when you couple that with a skin of a pachyderm, it is a recipe for extended threads going absolutely nowhere....and in that instance, give me the 75 % drivel any day of the week !!!
