I don't believe that PSP will lose money this year. World Cup is about to sell out. And I think they can make themselves mildly profitable next year with a couple key changes. And that's without any out-of-industry money.

I agree that there will be one league next year, or at least by the time 2008 comes to a close. But, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion how that will happen.

Don't suppose you're up for a jog over to Germany, Austria or Prague in the next couple weeks? I'll be around the continent and happy to buy you a beer or ten.

Chris, as far as I know, on no occasion have I ever suggested it's a forgone conclusion to happen this coming year.
I have been in this game far too long to expect common sense to have any bearing on what's done in our beloved sport.
I have cleared out my PM box, so feel free to message me.

My hotel internet sucks and I'm in an internet cafe and the keyboard is all screwy....

Anyway...

Baca: Agree that people must be going to national events for more than just to play. But people still like playing. I understand that for some people, the little extra money XBall costs may not matter if they're really only there to drink. I understand this - I used to be ona drinking team that played some paintball. But I think for MOST players, spending a little extra money is worth the extra play time. I don't think you can argue that XBall suffers because more paint is shot when, as Owen pointed out, shooting more paint means you're getting to play more.

Pete: I'll PM you when I find a keyboard that ain't all screwed up. When are you getting in to Cup?

Erm, not guilty. It wasn't me I tell ya--it was Big Jay and on this you can safely ignore him 'cus his massive shadow isn't blocking out the sun where you are.
Personally I think there is a divergence in the core participant between 7-man and Xball on the national stage with 7-man having had more of Jay's strutters by a wide margin than Xball. I also happen to think it's one of the reasons 7-man participation has flagged over the last couple of years because the league was built on the "extras" and when the shiny wore off so did the motivation to show up and to date only HB retains the original mystic and hence continues to have a major presence.
I also consider that part and parcel to my view that the only way to do this successfully over the long haul is to make the competition the first priority--and consequently why I have doubts about blah blah blah. :)

Yah, he shiny didn't 'wear off', it disappeared with PP (in my humble opinion). ;)

There are so many possible outcomes to this 're-unification' that it's currently impossible to know what next year will bring. Too many variables. the only thing it's safe to predict is that next year the landscape will be different.
I don't think its important what the format is, in fact I don't think it makes any difference at all in the grand scope of things. The important thing is that there is only one format. If you consider that, and then think; 'ok, what format can be played at any field, across the US and worldwide?', then I believe Xball isn't the best choice. It isn't just the Pro league that would have to play it, its everyone. It's not about whether Pro thru D3 can play it and afford to play it, its whether the rest of the world is willing to get behind it. A global format is needed. Xball "isn't for everyone", and that said, how can it be the "be all and end all" of anything.

Chris, while I respect your stubborness (even though I may not always agree with you) when it comes to defending your corner, I'd like to point out that not every paintballer is the same and plays for the same reasons. Which is something you often tend to forget in your arguments. You have a very black and white approach, while we live in a shades of grey world.
I respect stubbornness when it is also conviction, but....being stubborn (like cockdwarff) when all around you (even commonsense) is screaming, 'you are wrong, you are wrong, you are wrong' then this in my opinion, is pig ignorance and an offence to intelligent debate.

Everybody has a right to be wrong, but cockdwarff abused that right and so did Chris on occasion (but is much better now thankfully) used to nudge that boundary.
I quite like the new Chris, he's more human :)
