Easy solution !

Yes - it sounds arrogant - but honestly I think the arrogance is on the part of the promoters, who do not change something that is blatantly unfair and goes against the core of ANY sport (ouir included)... JUST because they fear losing a handfull of teams, that won't show if they don't get to be spanked around by a top team !

Nick
Nick-But dont the promoters have to factor in that they would lose a **** load of money by not catering to the rookie and nov teams??Say 30 teams are there just for the "social" part of it..If you alienate them, your risking at least $35000 in revenue for the event and I dont think thats a risk their willing to take especially with 2 leagues fighting for customers..Pros,Ams,and 70% of Novs show for the competition..The rest just want a chance to ball with the big boys..S7 knows the big boys are gonna show no matter what but its a different story with the others and theres gotta be some way to keep them happy as they are what makes the tourny go round..I totally agree with what your saying but its viewed through two different sets of eyes..Promoters looking for profit and players looking to get their moneys worth..Somethings gotta give but im not sure which one yet:)

I think.....

I think it is no more than maybe 5 % of all the teams at an event.

And then you forget how many stay AWAY, because they don't get fair competition !

Nick
Alright maybe I got a little exagerated with my math:) ..But if it is only 5% then there should be no reason why your proposal has never been used before..Theres gotta be something that keeps the scheduling the way it has been for years??What is it??Or are the promoters just believing that alienating the rooks is a bigger problem that what we think it is??

The day you start running your own major event I think we will see a different view from you. Until then, you will remain just a minor annoyance :)

The hard headed one is quite right about the number of teams would suffer. The novices and the rookies only get a couple of shots a year to have a game against some of the best in the world, thats what they pay $700 or whatever it is for the privelege of doing so. A promoter is not going to spend 3-4 months a year, putting together a tournament for 50 teams, its not going to make him a living.

As for the playing outside categories, thats why they are called 'opens'.

We would have

if we didn't ignore your posts...:p

So, who thinks that tha likes of Kapp, Evil and STP would be playing on Sunday if they were in tha Pro bracket?

And on a separate point, Trauma dominated tha Dogs last season, yet this year Dogs are kicking it in tha finals and Trauma are just getting a kicking...Dogs improved beyond recognition or is NXL that much harder than anything else out there?

Hmm, maybe that shoulda bin a new thread in itself...

Nick

Speaking as somebody from the other end of the spectrum, I like the fact that we get a chance to play the top teams at big events. I have only had the chance to do this once (campaign last year) and was gutted that I didn't get to play against our pro team; The Ducklings, it went down to a 1 on 1 and was great to watch (truth be told I had just bombed out in the previous game and offered not to play but that's really by the by).

Maybe having to beat us little guys annoys you paintball gods, but on occasion upsets happen and that's what we little teams have to live for. I agree that Am teams playing no other Am teams is a nonsense and makes TJ's statistic that started this whole thread a bit meaningless, but please don't rob us of our chances of playing the pros.

If it was up to me, I'd prefer to have the majority of games within their own division, with one or two outside. I don't know how the numbers work, to be honest my mind boggles at the logistics of it all.

Well

How many have you, organised?

How many times have you spent several days working through the night to have a tournament ready?

When was the last time you played novice or Rookie?

I am involved, I don't play pro - but I enjoy the challenge of playing teams like Strange - Acyd - Scalp etc, etc, the chance of taking down a big team is a buzz. Here is the place to do it.

What about in tennis when you hear that Andre Agassi has gone out to some no necked hick, thats his hard luck, other guys moment of fame. Similar situation, although not an exact comparison to be fair.

That is what attracts alot of the teams, to some qualifying for the finals is a bonus they were not expecting.

You, nor I, represent the majority of opinion. I only offer my insight others who may not have all the facts at their disposal - i.e. you:D

Me a smaller annoyance - nah - You just don't know me;) ;)

In reply to Mike lynch's comments I have to disagree with a few points. Mike you and your team are definetly better than alot of the pro teams out there along with teams like Kapp you guys should step up. The NPPL has stepped up and given the players what they wanted. They have given them better prizes tougher refs and now what would be the difference between the two.
You let the Pros play on center court. Why not? I understand in talking to you that Evil will be a PRO team in Chicago. I think that is a great thing. I hope that Kapp will do the same. As far as
the scheduling mess. I was the guy that caught the mess after
it was released. It had divisions in the quarter finals all playing on the same field. Well with this you can have fixed games under this format.
I know as well as you that this should have been caught earilier.
Well the mistake has been fixed and the Quarter, Semi and Final
Schedules should now be in hand when you pic up the prelim schedule in Chicago.
Tournament #2 was still better than any PSP event.

Take care

I have absolutely NOTHING against lower ranked teams - and even if SOME may take offence in the point I'm trying to make, it is NOT about me looking down my nose at "lesser teams".

The point IS - that it is a waste of time for BOTH parties !

(most of the time)

Of course you get the occasional upset - but 99 % of the Pro/Am B games end with a sure Pro win.... Same with Am A/Novice games.

I just don't see the point in it - and neither does any other sport !

Would you guys stay away if you didn't get to play Pros ?

Nick

The FA CUP !!!!!

Probably the most emotive and best followed of all soccer competitions in the UK !!!

I rest my case :)

Rodders, while u r on, can u explain to me why we (Nexus) had to play 3 diff fields in the semis and yet Avalanche played the same field each time...hardly fair mate was it?
Pete
PS Congrats on a great win, the guys desreved it !!!!!
