This whole situation is being made worse by indecision, confusion and lack of resources.
As things stand now, the Tigers and Nexus look like being the sole reps of UK Paintball and now the Tigers are teetering on the edge. Not because they aren't good enough, far from it, they have already proved they can hack it up there as is evidenced by their present position and this has been achieved without the attendant resource package the other American teams enjoy.
I also believe it when they tell me they haven’t gone down the dark road to designer gun cheating and so they have that added disadvantage too.
Their problem is two fold (and no disrespect intended here whatsoever) they have a player base that seems to have mixed feelings regarding their Stateside opportunity and they don't have the same financial backing others have.
Now, they have proved they can get around the latter but what you can't do is get around an uncommitted roster.
There are teams out there in the world of Paintball who would give their right arm to be where they are now and yet, the Tigers wallow in self doubt and lack of commitment.
If everybody on that team was as committed as Warren then I believe there would be no problem and they most certainly have the talent base to uphold a NPPL league spot for next year.
All that remains is for them to refocus on what’s important here and the same goes for Nexus as well if we are to stay in the NPPL.
Luckily we have the resources and the commitment but it is still gonna be difficult for many reasons.
I had a call the other nite offering to buy my spot on the NPPL, money wasn’t really mentioned but I declined and I very much doubt any monies over $75 k would have been offered anyway.
I got no substantial reason why I declined the offer other than I think my players would still like to go over there and I also think the Millennium haven’t yet put on a show that compares with the NPPL tourneys and so I ain’t gonna jump ship just yet.
There are some proposals that may make Nexus’s and Tiger’s decisions a little easier but these are only in the prelim stages of discussion and have yet to be fleshed out in full but in principle, a universal unification lies at the hub of it all.
I sincerely hope the Tigers and Nexus will represent the UK next year in the NPPL otherwise being UK’s sole rep is gonna be a long haul.
If the Tigers can resist the lure of a few grand, then we will both look forward to a pretty good future, let’s hope we both do the Stateside trips.
